When planning your trekking in Nepal, whether it be the Annapurna or the Everest Region, you are likely to touch ground in Kathmandu first and last. Whether you seek comfort or the most affordable option, in Kathmandu you can always find something that suits your needs. Kathmandu is the gateway for trekking in Nepal and most places know how to cater for trekkers. This means that you can, for example, leave excess luggage behind until after your trek.

While out trekking, your accommodation is sorted and you are likely to stay in guesthouses or teahouses. In Kathmandu, however, your options are still open. In this blog post, we want to share our recommendations.

In which district should I stay?

As most trekking operators are situated here and because there is just a great vibe hanging, we always recommend people to stay in the Thamel district. Ever since the 70s this has been the main tourist area of Kathmandu. There are lots of places to eat and drink, you can find plenty of shops for last-minute trekking gear and you always have easy access to other parts of the city. When staying in Thamel, you are very likely to be around the corner of your trekking company. This will be convenient for your pick up.
