Route
What's the plan?Prionia – Old Monastery of Agios Dionisios – Holy Cave - Mills- Litochoro
Estimated Walking Time: approx. 5-6 hours
Meeting point and time: At the main square of Litochoro, at 9.00 am
Arrive and meet your guide in Litochoro at 9.00 am in the main square next to the Taxi station. Transfer to Prionia, which will be the starting point of our hike, at an altitude of 1.100 meters.
The route from Prionia to the Old Monastery of Agios Dionisios goes parallelly to Enipeas stream which we will pass over via several nice wooden bridges. On the way, we will explore the waterfall of Enipeas with its gorgeous natural pool and we will enjoy the walk at the black pine tree forest.
Later on, we will reach the monastery of Agios Dionysios, which was destroyed in World War II by German troops who blew it up. It lies hidden in the dense pine forest. After 2 hours walking, we will arrive at the cave of Agios Dionisios, the place where the saint used to live as a hermit.
We will finish our tour at the Mills of Litochoro location, just outside Litochoro, at 300 m. The hike takes about 5 to 6 hours to complete and is classed as of moderate difficulty. Optionally, we can start from the Monastery of Saint Dionisos for less walking (one and a half-hour less walk).
