Described as "one of the world's greatest cruises", the Komani Lake Experience packs the magic of northern Albania into 3 unforgettable days. Ideal for those on a tight schedule! You will enjoy the best of Albania's wilderness, an epic ferry ride through the heart of the Albanian Alps and an authentic taste of local folklore and traditions.
Starting in Tirana, you'll be transported north with an expert guide at your side, trekking through remote landscapes full of valleys and lakes. Each night you'll settle into warm and welcoming guesthouses, sharing stories with fellow travellers and savouring the rich flavours of Albanian cuisine. Every detail has been thought out to make this trip as smooth as it is exciting. All you have to do is follow your guide, soak up the views and get ready to feel the wild spirit of Albania. Are you in?
Our trip to Komani Lake starts early in the morning at 05:00. Our guide will pick you up at your hotel in Tirana. As we turn off the main road towards Vau i Dejës, the area becomes more rural, with fewer cars but more wild nature and amazing scenery. We will stop for a short break at Vau i Dejes Lake, a beautiful and tranquil setting, and from here we will experience local transportation over bumpy roads but with great views.
We will board a ferry that will take us across Lake Komani, offering spectacular views of the Albanian Alps, waterfalls, rural villages and wild forests. It is considered by many to be an exotic experience combined with the unmatched hospitality of the locals.
Our next destination is the Valbona Valley National Park. Upon arrival in Valbona, we will have some free time to check into our guesthouse. In the afternoon we will explore the area and admire the so-called Crown of the Albanian Alps. We can take a 2-hour hike through the breathtaking Valbona Valley, a stunning part of the Albanian Alps known for its dramatic landscapes and vibrant flora. After the hike we return to the village. Overnight in a guesthouse in Valbona.
The hiking tour of the Albanian Alps gets more intense on this day, filled with exciting challenges and breathtaking scenery. The main goal of today’s hike is to reach "Piramida 18," which offers one of the most beautiful views and sits on the Montenegrin–Albanian border.
"Piramida 18" stands at 2000m above sea level, with a total hiking distance of 15 km round trip (up to 1706 meters). Reaching the pass takes around 4 hours from Valbona Valley National Park, passing through Kukaj. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with a 360° spectacular panorama of the wild beauty of the Accursed Mountains. Enjoy a picnic lunch in this breathtaking corner of the world, taking time to rest and recharge in the heart of the Alps before descending back to Valbona Valley. Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Valbona.
Waking up to such a magnificent view of the Albanian Alps will make you want to stay longer. After breakfast, we will have a few hours to explore the Valbona Valley. Later we will start our journey back to Tirana, following the same adventurous route through the Albanian Alps as on the first day.
