Tirana / Shkodra – Komani Lake – Valbona Valley National Park

This tour starts very early in the morning from Tirana or Shkodra. You will travel to Northern Albania by shared transport arranged by us. Please make sure you are at the meeting point in time to catch the transfer. (More details after booking).

As you leave the main road towards Vau i Dejës, the area becomes more rural with fewer cars but more wild nature and stunning scenery. We will stop for a short break at Vau i Dejës Lake, a beautiful and tranquil setting. From here, you'll travel by local transport over bumpy roads but surrounded by great views. You’ll take a ferry across Lake Komani for spectacular views of the Albanian Alps, waterfalls, rural villages, and wild forests. Many consider this an exotic experience combined with the unrivaled hospitality of the locals.

Your next destination is the Valbona Valley National Park. Upon arrival in Valbona, you will have some time to settle into your guesthouse. In the afternoon, you can explore the area and admire the so-called Crown of the Albanian Alps. You can do a 2-hour loop hike through the breathtaking Valbona Valley, a stunning part of the Albanian Alps known for its dramatic landscapes and vibrant flora. After the walk you can return to Valbona to spend the night in a guesthouse in the village.

Valbona Valley – “Piramida 18” – Valbona Valley

Distance: 16 km

The hiking tour of the Albanian Alps gets more intense on this day, filled with exciting challenges and breathtaking scenery. The main goal of today’s hike is to reach "Piramida 18," which offers one of the most beautiful views and sits on the Montenegrin–Albanian border.

"Piramida 18" stands at 2000m above sea level, with a total hiking distance of 15 km round trip (up to 1706 meters). Reaching the pass takes around 4 hours from Valbona Valley National Park, passing through Kukaj. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with a 360° spectacular panorama of the wild beauty of the Accursed Mountains. Enjoy a picnic lunch in this breathtaking corner of the world, taking time to rest and recharge in the heart of the Alps before descending back to Valbona Valley. Overnight stay in a guesthouse in Valbona.

Valbona – Shkodra / Tirana

Waking up to such magnificent views of the Albanian Alps will make you want to stay longer, but you will board a boat that will take you across Lake Komani, offering spectacular views of the Albanian Alps, waterfalls, rural villages, and wild forests. Many consider this an exotic experience, enhanced by the unmatched hospitality of the locals. Arriving at the Komani Dam, you’ll experience local transport on bumpy roads, with incredible views of Lake Vau i Dejes.

Returning to the vibrant city of Shkoder or Tirana after this unforgettable journey marks the end of your self-guided tour. In Tirana/Shkoder you'll be dropped off at the bus station, from where you can make your own way to your hotel by bus or taxi (not included). You'll return home full of the wonders of Albania, with stories and memories to share.

  • Transfers

    Day 1: Local transport provided by the company from the meeting point in Tirana/Shkodra to Vau i Dejes (and back on the last day). Local transport for the bumpy road from Vau i Dejes to Komani Lake (and back on the last day).
    Day 3: Local transport for the road from Fierza to Valbona (and back).

  • Basic accommodation

    Shared accommodation for 2 nights in traditional and simple homestay/guesthouse with basic bathroom amenities. A typical room accommodates two to five travellers and it may be necessary for male and female groups to share a room (unless you book a private room).

  • Breakfast

    Breakfasts are included in the price of the trek. They will be provided at the accommodation where you spent the night before.

  • Ferry ticket

    The return ferry trip across Lake Komani from the Fierza dam to the Komani dam is included.

Excluded

  • Traveling to and from

    This trip does not include costs for transportation (flights, bus travel, etc.) to your destination.

  • Lunch and dinner

    The meals during the trek are not included in the final price, except for breakfast.

  • Travel Insurance

    Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. It is important that your travel insurance also covers adventures at a high altitude. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.

  • Accommodation before and after the trek

    Before and after the trek you have to take care of your own accommodation.

  • Personal expenses

    Personal expenses such as souvenirs, drinks at the bar and other similar expenses are your own responsibility.
