Arrival Day

You arrive in the town of Stege, where your Camøno Highlights trek begins. Stege is a historic market town with a compact centre, narrow streets, cafés, and an active harbour. After checking into your accommodation, you have time to explore the town, stroll along the harbour area, or take care of any final supplies. The setting offers an introduction to the island environment and gives a clear sense of place before walking starts. This arrival day is designed for a relaxed start and practical preparation ahead of the first day on the route across Møn and Nyord.

Stege - Nyord

Duration: 03:33 h
Distance: 14 km
Ascent: 30 m
Descent: 40 m

From Stege, the walk slips quietly out of town along calm streets and into open country. Houses thin out, fields take over, and the day settles into an easy rhythm. Flat paths, wide skies, and a gentle sense of space define the first part of the stage.

The route threads through low farmland and wetlands, following quiet roads and tracks. Near Pilebugt, reeds and shallow water stretch out beside the path, with long views across the lake. Water and land blur here, and the openness of the landscape becomes the main companion on the walk.

After crossing the wide marshes of the Nyord wetlands, the narrow causeway leads straight toward the island. Water lies on both sides as Nyord slowly comes into view. The stage ends among small houses and the simple harbour, where the village feels calm, compact, and pleasantly remote.

Nyord - Elmehøj

Duration: 04:58 h
Distance: 19.5 km
Ascent: 70 m
Descent: 40 m

From Nyord, the route winds through the small village and straight into the wide openness of the Ulvshale–Nyord nature area. Flat paths cut through grassland, ditches, and wet fields, where water is never far away. The landscape feels low, calm, and shaped by wind and tide.

The causeway leads back to the mainland, with water on both sides and big skies overhead. Beyond it, the walk continues through open farmland, along quiet roads and tracks past fields, meadows, and the occasional farm. Everything is level and spacious, with long views and an unhurried pace.

Near Ulvshale, the route brushes the coast, following shallow waters and broad sandy beaches edged with dunes and coastal grass. Eventually, the path turns inland again, slipping through lighter woodland and open land toward Elmehøj. Sitting just a little higher, it feels like a gentle landing after a day in the lowlands.

Elmehøj - Liselund

Duration: 03:55 h
Distance: 15.1 km
Ascent: 110 m
Descent: 70 m

A few steps beyond Elmehøj are enough to leave the village behind. Small roads and quiet paths guide the walk straight into open farmland, where gently rolling fields and distant farmhouses set a relaxed tone. The space is generous and the walking easy, with wide views in every direction.

The route keeps north on calm country roads, gradually drawing closer to the coast. Before long, the sea comes into view beyond low dunes and coastal grassland, running alongside fields and open land. The path switches between asphalt and rougher tracks, letting cultivated landscapes and the shoreline blend together.

As the coast is left behind, trees begin to close in and the atmosphere shifts. Woodland paths take over, leading into the park-like setting of Liselund. Winding tracks, old trees, and small water features signal the end of the stage, finishing in one of Møn’s most atmospheric landscapes.

Liselund - Klintholm Havn

Duration: 04:25 h
Distance: 15.8 km
Ascent: 270 m
Descent: 330 m

The walk slips straight out of Liselund and into its parkland, where gravel paths and narrow trails weave between old trees, ponds, and open lawns. Small bridges and clearings keep appearing, and the gentle ups and downs make for relaxed walking as the landscape slowly becomes wilder.

Once beyond the park, the forest takes over. Beech trees close in, roots cross the path, and the route climbs toward the edge of Møns Klint. Then the cliffs arrive in full view: white chalk dropping steeply to the Baltic below. The clifftop trail rolls constantly, with short climbs, narrow sections, and viewpoints that pull you back toward the edge.

Eventually the route turns inland, easing down through woodland into farmland. Gravel tracks become quiet roads, houses start to appear, and the air feels softer again. Klintholm Havn announces itself with boats, cafés, and the sheltered harbour, a lively and fitting end after the drama of the cliffs.

Klintholm Havn - Stege

Duration: 04:48 h
Distance: 18.8 km
Ascent: 60 m
Descent: 60 m

Boats rocking in Klintholm Havn set the tone as the route heads out along the coast. The path stays close to the water, following beaches and calm coastal roads with wide views across the Baltic. Waves, wind, and open space dominate, while the walking remains flat and pleasantly easy.

Gradually, the coastline gives way to quiet countryside. Farms and small groups of houses sit between broad fields and meadows, linked by calm roads and farm tracks. The landscape is open and orderly, with long sightlines and hardly any traffic, making this a relaxed and steady section.

Near Stege Nor, water returns to shape the walk. Reeds, wet meadows, and the shallow lagoon create a quieter, more natural atmosphere. The final stretch leads through residential streets into Stege itself, where historic buildings, cafés, and the town harbour bring the stage to a lively close.

Departure Day

Stege marks the quiet end of the walk. The route dissolves into town streets, past the harbour and everyday life, where buses, cafés, and shops are close at hand. It is an easy place to stop, take off your pack, and think about the journey ahead.

Looking back, the landscape has unfolded step by step: open fields, forest paths, white cliffs, beaches, wetlands, and small villages. Moving through it all on foot ties Møn and Nyord together in a way no map ever could.

The walking may be done, but the rhythm stays with you. The slow pace, the changing light, and the feeling of space linger long after leaving town, a quiet reminder of the route you have just followed.
