> Hike the sunny side of Switzerland with the whole family
> Sleep in welcoming mountain huts
> Experience the pink glow of Enrosadira at sunrise and sunset
Ever watched the mountains blush? In Ticino, the Enrosadira glow turns stone to fire—just one of those moments that makes the whole day worth it. Welcome to Famiglia Ticino: a 5-day alpine escape built for adventurous families who want a bit more than the usual holiday.
The trails here are made for families who’ve done some hiking before. You’ll meander through chestnut forests and quiet villages, follow rivers, and cross one good old-fashioned mountain pass. It’s just enough challenge to earn your end-of-day pasta and maybe a glass of something local. Each night, you’ll stay in a family-friendly rifugio with hearty meals and proper views.
This isn’t a walk in the park—it’s a real slice of the Alps, unplugged, family-sized, and with a pinch of Italian spice. Perfect if your crew is ready to level up from the easy stuff.
From the Rodi-Posta bus stop, the trail begins with a warm-up through the quiet village streets of Fiesso. Soon, the real work starts. Follow the T3 trail as it snakes sharply up the mountainside in a relentless zigzag. The forest thickens, the valley drops away, and the views open up with every switchback.
This is a proper climb — expect to break a sweat. The path is steep and rocky at times, but well-marked and rewarding. You’ll gain over 1000 meters in just a few kilometers. Just when your legs start questioning your life choices, the turquoise shimmer of Lago Tremorgio appears through the trees.
A final push and you reach Capanna Tremorgio at 1850 meters. Grab a drink on the terrace, soak in the views, and breathe in that high mountain air. You’ve earned it.
From Capanna Tremorgio, you’ve got two tempting options. Fancy a scenic detour? Start your day by circling Lago Tremorgio on the panoramic trail. The water shimmers beside you as you trace the shoreline with alpine views in every direction. A perfect way to stretch the legs before heading into the wild.
Or take the direct route and dive straight into the climb. Follow the well-marked T2 trail as it heads south, gradually gaining height. The terrain becomes rougher, wilder, and rockier as you approach the Venett Pass, with Cima di Filo towering on your left. Keep an eye out for rare alpine flowers on the surrounding slopes.
After the pass, the path drops gently to Campolungo Alp, where the two trails meet. From here, it’s a peaceful descent to the shores of Lago di Leit and the welcoming Capanna Leit. Time for a hearty meal and a lakefront break — you’ve earned it, whichever way you came.
It all starts with a wow. Just a few steps out of Capanna Leìt, you're already surrounded by views you won't forget. First, Lago di Leìt glows in the morning light like a secret jewel between the peaks. A bit later, another surprise: Lago di Morghirolo, shimmering far below like a hidden pool in the valley. Two mountain lakes in one day? Yes please.
The trail climbs gently at first, with a short cable section that adds just the right touch of adventure. It’s safe, steady, and fun for active kids (and adults too). Once you pass the high point, the path meanders through alpine meadows and past rocky ridgelines. Marmots might whistle from the slopes, and there’s plenty of space to stop, snack, and soak it all in.
As the valley opens, you make your way down toward Capanna Campo Tencia. It’s the perfect mix of adventure and comfort, with a mountain hut at the end that feels like it was made just for you.
There's a sense of walking through the sky. From Campo Tencia, the path gently winds uphill, and soon you're up in a wide-open world—no trees, no towns, just towering peaks all around. You’ll feel tiny, but in the best way.
The trail takes you eastward, across quiet valleys and stony ridges, with curious peaks like Poncione del Laghetto and Pizzo Forno watching from the sides. One of the highlights? Reaching the wide shoulder near Motta delle Fontane. From here, it's all downhill, and the views open up like a giant postcard.
This is a quieter stage, made for spotting ibex or playing “name that peak” with the kids. The final stretch brings you to Capanna Alpe Sponda, a cozy hut with a sunny terrace and wide views of the Ticino mountains. After a day on top of the world, it’s the perfect place to slow down.
It’s your last day on the trail, but it starts in pure mountain silence. From Capanna Alpe Sponda, the path gently zigzags down into the forest. The air smells like pine needles, the trail is soft underfoot, and there’s that quiet joy of knowing you’ve walked through the high Alps as a family.
The trail winds past clear mountain streams and open meadows, with the Ticinetto River playing hide and seek below. There’s a little spot near the Fiume Ticinetto where you can stop, dip your toes in the water, and celebrate the adventure. From there, it's a relaxed descent through the woods and across stone bridges, all the way to the village of Chironico.
As you reach the Chiesa di San Maurizio, you’ll hear the sounds of a village again—bells, voices, the end of your trek. But this isn't just the finish. It's the memory-making moment when you realise: you just crossed the Alps on foot. Together.
You’ll receive access to our trekking app, which serves as your complete digital travel guide for the Ticino. Inside, you’ll find everything you need for your trek: route descriptions, hiking maps, navigation support, payment information, and all the key details specific to your journey.
During your Ticino, you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.
Accommodation in the huts includes dinner and breakfast, unless otherwise indicated in the exclusive list. This allows you to travel lighter and not have to worry about an extra meal. Please note, however, that lunch is not included, but can be purchased at the huts.
Our trekking app also includes built-in navigation support. With GPS-based maps and offline access, you can follow the trail confidently and stay on route even without mobile signal.
You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.
Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas, ferries, etc.
Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.
Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.
Personal expenses on such as souvenirs, drinks, and other similar expenses are for your own account.
