Distance: 5.3 km / 3.3 mi

The tour starts with a gentle yet steady ascent from the tranquil hamlet of Le Laisonnay d'en Bas (1,560 m) to the Refuge de la Glière (2,000 m). This short stage is ideal for warming up and acclimatising to walking with a backpack, particularly if you are a young or rookie hiker.

Along the way, you will pass traditional chalets and observe the local geology and wildlife. The lush green landscape provides stunning vistas of the surrounding peaks.

After a couple of hours, you will reach tonight's mountain hut, located in a beautiful open valley where marmots and cows can often be seen grazing in the meadows. There is plenty of space to explore or simply relax on the terrace. It's the perfect start to your mountain adventure!

The first part of the trail follows a scenic balcony path, providing a wonderful panorama of the valley below. Depending on the season, you may see small lakes, glacial streams and wildflower meadows. As you slowly ascend, the surroundings gradually become more grey and rocky, taking on a distinct alpine character. Be sure to pause at one of the panoramic viewpoints along the way. The vistas are stunning, and there are plenty of photo opportunities!

At the Col du Palet crossroads, turn left to approach the Refuge du Col du Palet, which is located at around 2,600 metres.
