The northern coast of Bornholm is where the drama lives steep granite cliffs, fairytale fishing villages, and pine forests that lead straight to the sea. This half-route trek brings you the best of Bornholm without walking the full circle. Think: Gudhjem’s harbor cafés, the medieval ruins of Hammershus, and coastal paths you’ll have mostly to yourself.

This 6-day version is ideal for intermediate hikers with limited time who still want the full Bornholm feel. Starting in Rønne and ending in Svaneke, you’ll pass through Hasle, Allinge-Sandvig, and Gudhjem. We’ve included accommodation before and after, so you can show up, walk, and unwind.

Arrival Day

Welcome to Bornholm Denmark’s rocky pearl in the Baltic Sea. After arrival, you settle into your hotel in the island’s main town, Rønne. It’s a place of half-timbered houses, old cobbled alleys, and a lively harbor. Spend the afternoon soaking up the town’s relaxed pace. Visit the beach, walk the waterfront, or grab a table at a local café. Tonight, you sleep by the sea, with the sound of waves marking the start of your coastal trek adventure.

Rønne-Hasle

Duration: 02:55 h
Distance: 11.2 km
Ascent: 50 m

Your hike begins through pine forests and soft sandy trails just north of Rønne. The route follows the western coast along peaceful woodland in Blykobbe Plantage, where trees whisper and birds flit through the canopy. You walk past hidden beaches and gentle cliffs until Hasle appears a quiet harbor town where fishing and smoking herring are still a way of life. Make time to visit the old smokehouses and enjoy your first taste of Bornholm’s culinary heritage. It’s a mellow first stage to ease into the rhythm of the island.

Ascent: 190 m

Today the coastline gets wilder. After leaving Hasle, you pass through rugged rock formations and sleepy fishing villages like Helligpeder and Teglkås. The terrain becomes steeper as you approach Jons Kapel, a dramatic sea cliff wrapped in Viking myths. Granite dominates the landscape here, and the views over the Baltic are spectacular. You finish the day in Sandvig, nestled between cliffs and the sea. Its little harbor and sandy bay offer a peaceful place to unwind. You’ll feel like you’ve earned your dinner today.

You descend into Gudhjem, a picture-perfect harbor town that climbs up a steep hill like something out of a storybook. Artists love this place and you’ll see why as soon as you arrive.
