Starting and ending in the same spot, this looped route takes you along easy mountain trails that are perfect for younger legs. With short distances, stunning views, and a good chance of spotting local wildlife, it's an unforgettable escape into nature for all the family.

You'll stay in two cosy mountain huts: Refuge de l’Archeboc and Refuge du Ruitor. Each day will end with a warm meal and the satisfaction of a day spent in the fresh mountain air that even the youngest trekkers will love. This is ideal for families looking to enjoy the Alps at a relaxed pace.

La Savonne - Refuge de l'Archeboc

This child-friendly adventure starts at the Pierre Giret car park, located next to the hamlet of La Savonne in the Ruisseau du Clou valley, right under the Pointe d'Averne peak (2,554 m). The route to the hut is short and easy, making it a great introduction to hiking for young trekkers.

You’ll begin with a walk through a peaceful alpine valley. You will then cross the Torrent de la Sassière and enter a wooded area. Halfway through the hike, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the valley. You will then continue on to grassy meadows. Keep your eyes peeled for marmots or cows grazing in the pastures. En route to the refuge, you will pass a small chapel and another hamlet with a water fountain, which indicates that the end is close.

As you approach La Motte, home to the Refuge de l'Archeboc, you will hear bubbling brooks. Perched among the surrounding hills, this cosy mountain refuge is the perfect place to spend your first night in the mountains. There is plenty of space to explore and play, and the friendly staff will make you feel right at home.

Refuge de l'Archeboc - Refuge du Ruitor

This exciting mountain crossing will make young adventurers feel like real explorers. Although short, the trail features a genuine ascent and descent, making it perfect for children ready for a fun challenge.

You will begin a steady ascent along a path through rocky alpine terrain. As you climb higher, look back to enjoy amazing views of the valley and the surrounding peaks. Before reaching Col de Montséti (2520 m), you will have the chance to cross a couple of mountain streams. The landscape opens up at Lac Noir, near the top, revealing an amazing panorama. Here, you can stop and enjoy a snack with a view..

From there, a winding descent will lead you down to the peaceful Vallon du Clou. The Refuge du Ruitor, surrounded by high peaks, an alpine meadow and the ruins of La Sassière, is the perfect place to spend the night.

Refuge du Ruitor - La Savonne

The final stage is short and sweet, with the entire route downhill. After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the refuge, you will pack your bags and begin the gentle descent to the hamlet of La Savonne.

First, the trail follows a wide mountain path, which then narrows into switchbacks through grassy terrain and pine forests. Soon, you will reach the peaceful valley, accompanied by multiple streams along the way. The trail is often lined with wildflowers, and you may catch a glimpse of marmots on the hillsides one last time.

You will soon reach the end of the trail in La Savonne, near the Pierre Giret car park. It's time to celebrate completing your mountain adventure! This moment marks the proud conclusion of your first family alpine journey together!

    During your Bourg-Saint-Maurice, you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.

  • Half-board in Huts

    Accommodation at the huts includes dinner and breakfast. We will arrange this for you as well. This allows you to travel lighter and have one less thing to worry about. Bear in mind that lunch is not included, but it can be purchased at the huts. Here you can also buy an array of snacks and bottled water.

  • Navigation support

    Our trekking app also includes built-in navigation support. With GPS-based maps and offline access, you can follow the trail confidently and stay on route even without mobile signal.

    You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.

  • Transfers

    Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas, ferries, etc.

  • Lunch

    Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.

  • Travel Insurance

    Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.

  • Personal expenses

    Personal expenses on such as souvenirs, drinks, and other similar expenses are for your own account.
