Each day you hike from hut to hut, passing alpine meadows, grazing cows, dramatic limestone walls, and crystal-clear mountain streams.
The route starts at the Gramaialm, deep in the Falzthurn valley, and finishes in the mountain village of Scharnitz. Along the way, you’ll stay at classic huts like Lamsenjochhütte, the idyllic Engalm, the spectacularly located Falkenhütte, and the famous Karwendelhaus. The stages are carefully chosen to keep distances and difficulty family-friendly while still delivering a true alpine experience.
The Kinder Karwendel may be tailored for kids, but it’s a real mountain adventure for the whole family. And best of all: we take care of all your hut bookings so you can focus on hiking, taking in the views, and enjoying your Kaiserschmarrn at the end of the day.
The first day of the Kinder Karwendel trek starts gently at the Gramaialm (1,267 m), deep in the Falzthurn valley. As you follow the gravel path, you’ll pass lush alpine meadows with the sound of cowbells echoing in the distance. The trail climbs steadily and offers beautiful views of the surrounding limestone peaks. Along the way, there are several spots to take a break and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of the valley.
After about four kilometers, you reach the eastern Lamsenjoch, a mountain pass at 1,940 meters. From here, the trail winds along rocky slopes and flower-filled pastures toward the Lamsenjochhütte, located at 1,953 meters. These final kilometers truly bring you into high alpine terrain. The total distance for this stage is around 5 kilometers with 680 meters of ascent, very manageable for families with some hiking experience.
The Lamsenjochhütte sits dramatically at the base of the Lamsenspitze. This cozy hut offers dormitory and private room accommodation. On the sunny terrace, you can enjoy a warm meal and views of the Inn Valley. If you still have some energy, you can hike up to the nearby Hahnkampl (2,080 m), a light summit just 45 minutes from the hut. A perfect ending to a first day full of alpine highlights.
After a peaceful night at the Lamsenjochhütte, day two begins with a descent toward the Engalm. The route is approximately 6.5 km long and descends around 470 meters. Along the way, you walk through alpine meadows and enjoy stunning views of the Karwendel Mountains.
The Engalm is an idyllic alpine pasture with traditional wooden buildings and grazing cows. It’s the perfect spot for a break and to sample some local cheese. For kids, there’s plenty to discover—like friendly animals and the chance to taste homemade yogurt or ice cream.
Upon arrival at the Engalm, you can unwind and take in the peaceful alpine setting. This charming stop offers a genuine taste of mountain life and is a highlight of the Kinder Karwendel trek.

Along the way, you'll encounter diverse flora and possibly spot some local wildlife.
As you approach the Karwendelhaus, the path ascends gradually, offering stunning vistas of the Karwendel range.
