Then, it’s just you and your family picking your way through fairy-tale valleys, past wildflowers, and over friendly but exciting trails. Yes, there are ladders, yes, there are cables—but nothing too crazy. Just enough to feel like a real adventure. The Dolomites have never been so family-friendly.

This 3-day loop starts and ends at the Kölner Hütte and includes nights at Rifugio Vajolet and Rifugio Negritella. You’ll walk short daily stages that keep the energy high and the complaints low—perfect for kids, and even better for parents. All the thrill of a Dolomites trek, minus the drama. Family time? This is how it’s done.

Kölner Hütte - Rifugio Vajolet

Start from the Kölner Hütte and follow the path leading towards the Coronelle Pass. This passage allows a crossing into the neighboring valley and offers a wide panoramic view over the surrounding Dolomite peaks.Continue along the trail across technical mountain terrain, following SAT 541 beneath the impressive Parete orientale del Catinaccio, the striking eastern rock face of the Rosengarten massif.

Descend steadily as the route curves around rocky ledges and alpine meadows, gradually revealing the basin of Gardeccia.From here, begin the final ascent towards Rifugio Vajolet on a well-beaten trail. The climb is moderate and takes approximately 40 minutes. Along the way, enjoy views of the surrounding spires and cliffs that characterize this section of the Dolomites.

The Rifugio Vajolet marks the end of this stage, nestled in the heart of the Catinaccio group.

Rifugio Vajolet - Rifugio Negritella

From Rifugio Vajolet, follow the marked trail as it descends through alpine meadows and rocky terrain. Shortly after departure, you will reach a plaque in memory of Dr. Vinicio dalla Vecchia, placed in a quiet spot that invites a moment of reflection.

Continue along the path toward Rifugio Stella Alpina. Located in a broad green area, the rifugio offers space for a short stop or a picnic before the climb toward the Preuss and Vajolet towers. Proceed further and you will find Baita Enrosadira, a small wooden refuge with a distinctive charm, ideal for a brief rest.

The route then leads through a wide valley along the Trail of Legends. In this valley, two cottages sit in isolation, offering views of the Catinaccio and a sense of peace and silence. The hike concludes at Rifugio Negritella, located at the end of the descent.

Rifugio Negritella - Kölner Hütte

From Rifugio Negritella, follow the marked path towards the Rosengarten massif. After approximately 1 km, the trail opens up to a scenic viewpoint offering clear views of the surrounding peaks. It is recommended to stop and take in the landscape, as the views towards the Rosengarten group are particularly striking from this point.

Continue along the trail for another 1.5 km to reach Panorama Rosengarten. From here, you can enjoy wide-reaching views over the central peaks of the Rosengarten massif. The trail continues along varied terrain including mountain paths and natural surfaces.

The route then ascends towards Coronelle Pass, the highest point of this stage. This section includes technical and potentially exposed segments. Proper footwear, good physical condition, and previous experience with alpine terrain are required. At the pass, you are rewarded with a panoramic view over the Dolomites.

From Coronelle Pass, descend gradually along the designated route until reaching Kölner Hütte, the end point of this stage. The hut is a well-known waypoint in the region and offers refreshments and rest.

  • Full travel guide

    You’ll receive access to our trekking app, which serves as your complete digital travel guide for the Rosengarten. Inside, you’ll find everything you need for your trek: route descriptions, hiking maps, navigation support, payment information, and all the key details specific to your journey.

  • Accommodation

    During your Rosengarten, you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.

  • Half-board in Huts

    Accommodation at the huts includes dinner and breakfast. We will arrange this for you as well. This allows you to travel lighter and have one less thing to worry about. Bear in mind that lunch is not included, but it can be purchased at the huts. Here you can also buy an array of snacks and bottled water.

  • Navigation support

    Our trekking app also includes built-in navigation support. With GPS-based maps and offline access, you can follow the trail confidently and stay on route even without mobile signal.

Excluded

  • Traveling to and from

    You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.

  • Transfers

    Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas, ferries, etc.

  • Lunch

    Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.

  • Travel Insurance

    Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.

  • Personal expenses

    Personal expenses on such as souvenirs, drinks, and other similar expenses are for your own account.
