Full Mullerthal Trail Route 1, 2 & 3

From Echternach, you immediately step into the fairytale-like nature of Luxembourg’s Müllerthal. While the previous stage mainly showcases open landscapes and orchards, this section is all about rock formations, gorges, and mysterious forest paths.

You walk through the famous sandstone rocks that have given the Müllerthal its nickname “Little Switzerland.” Narrow passages, moss-covered walls, and shaded ravines make this route one full of adventure and variety. Along the way, you pass idyllic streams winding between the rocks and hear the gentle murmur of water everywhere. The trail alternates between intense nature experiences and short open sections where you suddenly enjoy wide views over the valley. It is precisely this contrast, from dark rock gorges to bright panoramic viewpoints, that makes this stage unique.

After a series of winding forest paths, you reach the village of Müllerthal, nestled in the heart of this rocky landscape.

This stage of the Müllerthal Trail takes you from the heart of “Little Switzerland” to the charming village of Larochette, famous for its impressive castle ruins. It is a varied hike that allows you to experience the very best the region has to offer.

After leaving Müllerthal, you follow picturesque stream valleys and walk through peaceful forests. The trail winds along the White Ernz River and occasionally opens up onto a plateau where you can enjoy magnificent views of the landscape.

Along the way, you pass through the mysterious Marscherwald, a dense beech forest where wooden bridges guide you over small streams. A highlight is the Kallektuffquelle, a lime-rich spring that trickles over the rocks, creating a fairytale-like scene.

Further on, you pass the famous Schéissendëmpel waterfall, one of the iconic landmarks of the Müllerthal Trail, before the route continues towards Larochette. On arrival, you are greeted by the impressive ruins of Larochette Castle, towering high above the village and offering a spectacular view.

Leaving the touristy Larochette, the path goes straight up, where you soon have fantastic views over the small village. Today you pass several memorial sites, and also Lavoir Klingelbour, a water pump that is showing how people, back in the days, used to pump water from the stream. The path continues through the woods, and between the trees, you can see the ruins of Beaufort Castle.

This stage takes you from Müllerthal to Echternach through dense forests and impressive rock formations. On the way, you pass close to the village of Berdorf, famous for its striking sandstone cliffs. The trail winds between moss-covered boulders, narrow gorges, and tranquil woodland paths, occasionally opening up to reveal wide, scenic views.
