The Rothaarsteig in the Sauerland is one of the top hiking routes in Germany. Less than a four-hour drive from Utrecht and combinable with a weekend in Winterberg, it is also a popular route among Dutch hikers. If you want to go hiking in Sauerland or in Winterberg, then sooner or later you will come on the trail of the Rothaarsteig.

During this 4-day hiking package you will hike two stages of the Rothaarsteig and stay in a comfortable hotel in ydillian Winterberg. You will be driven to the starting point of stage 2 and picked up again after stage 3. Luggage-free hiking and a relaxing weekend in beautiful Sauerland.

Arrival Day Winterberg

Today, you arrive in Winterberg. You can go straight to your hotel and then explore the town on your own. Relax by the Hillebachsee or get ready for the Rothaarsteig and go hiking in and around the village.

Willingen - Winterberg

This stage of the Rothaarsteig starts in Willingen with a walk along the Hessian border. After breakfast, you will be driven to Willingen, where the hike begins. You'll be heading south through the nature reserve Neuer Hagen.

Winterberg - Schanze

The third stage of the Rothaarsteig takes us to the Kahle Asten. Here, you have a beautiful view of the surrounding region, overlooking the Brocken, the Feldberg, and the Wasserkuppe in the Rhön. At the Heidenstock, the Rothaarsteig splits into two paths. The main path continues along the mountain ridge and leads to Kühhude, but to reach Schanze, you have to turn right into the valley. The decision for the next stage can be made in the evening.

Included

Accommodation

We will arrange your accommodation on the Rothaarsteig in hotels, inns, and guesthouses. Accommodation will be private in single, double or twin rooms and with en-suite bathroom where possible.

Breakfast is, if possible, included in this trek and it will be provided every morning at your accommodation.

Traveling to and from

You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport. This also applies to any transport from the end point of your trail.
Transfers

Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas etc.
Travel Insurance

Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.
Lunch and Dinner

Breakfast is, if possible, included in the price of the trek. You can get lunch and dinner at the shops, hotels, and restaurants along the way.
