The Tour du Mont Blanc is one of Europe’s most breathtaking trekking routes, crossing France, Italy, and Switzerland on a legendary 170-kilometer circuit. With stunning views of the Mont Blanc massif, charming alpine villages, and picturesque valleys, this trek offers an unforgettable experience without the need for extreme endurance. Designed for comfort and ease, this version of the trek makes use of convenient shortcuts by public transport and cable cars, reducing some sections and making the journey more relaxed. You’ll stay in cozy hotels and well-equipped mountain huts, ensuring a restful night after each day’s walk, while luggage transport allows you to hike light and fully enjoy the experience.

Midway, take a well-deserved rest day in Courmayeur, a charming Italian town where you can unwind, explore, or simply take in the mountain views. Along the way, savor delicious local cuisine and experience the warm hospitality of traditional alpine villages. With all logistics handled—including reservations, accommodations, and luggage transfers—you can focus entirely on the adventure. Arrival day

Today, you will arrive in Chamonix, where a comfortable hotel room has been booked for you. Take your time to settle in and enjoy the charming atmosphere of this welcoming mountain town. Spend the afternoon at your own pace—perhaps with a leisurely stroll through the town, a visit to a cozy café, or a delicious French meal at a local restaurant. If you don’t have a Tour du Mont Blanc map yet, this is a great time to get one. We also recommend stopping by the Office de Tourisme for any last-minute information about the route and the best way to reach Les Houches, your starting point for the trek. Take this time to relax and prepare, knowing that everything is arranged for a smooth and enjoyable adventure ahead.

From Les Houches to Les Contamines-Montjoie

After a comfortable bus ride from Chamonix to Les Houches, you begin your journey towards Col de Voza, the first ascent of the Tour du Mont Blanc. From here, you can either follow the Bellevue route past the stunning Bionassay Glacier and Col de Tricot, crossing a suspension bridge with breathtaking glacier views, or take a gentler path via Refuge du Fioux. If you prefer a shorter hike, the Bellevue cable car offers a relaxed alternative. Your day ends in the charming village of Les Contamines-Montjoie, where you can unwind in comfortable accommodations and enjoy a well-earned meal, reflecting on your first day of trekking.

From Les Contamines-Montjoie to Les Chapieux

After a comfortable night’s rest, you continue your journey through a stunning valley with breathtaking views of the Mont Blanc massif. The well-marked trail leads you to Notre Dame de la Gorge, a historic chapel nestled in nature. If you're feeling adventurous and the weather allows, you can take an optional detour toward the Tre la Tête Glacier for even more spectacular scenery. The route then gradually ascends to the Col du Croix du Bonhomme, with plenty of opportunities to pause and take in the surroundings. After a gentle descent to Les Chapieux, a shuttle will take you to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, where you’ll settle into a comfortable hotel for a well-earned evening of rest and relaxation.

From Refuge des Mottets to Courmayeur

After a hearty breakfast, you take the shuttle back into the mountains, making for a gentle start to the day. You can ride the shuttle all the way to Refuge des Mottets, reducing the initial ascent and beginning your hike from this scenic mountain hut. From here, a gradual climb leads you to Col de la Seigne, the natural border between France and Italy, offering breathtaking yet manageable views. As you enter Italy, you’ll pass Lake Combal, a perfect spot to pause and admire the southern face of Mont Blanc. The route continues with spectacular views of the Miage and Brenva glaciers and the impressive Peuterey peaks, creating a truly memorable experience. As you approach Courmayeur, you have the option to either walk the final stretch from Rifugio Maison Vieille or take the cable car down, ensuring a smooth and comfortable arrival in this beautiful Italian town.

Note: The cable car down to Courmayeur closes at 5 pm. Make sure you arrive before that time. Otherwise, you can continue to Courmayeur on foot.

From Courmayeur to Hôtel du Col de Fenêtre

Your day begins with a hearty breakfast, gearing you up for one of the most spectacular ascents of the Tour: the Col Ferret. To make the start of your hike a little easier, consider taking the bus to Arp Nouvaz Cap. Buses depart hourly from Courmayeur, offering a smooth and energy-saving shortcut.

If you prefer a more scenic and gradual approach, hop off a few stops earlier and hike via Lavachey and Refuge Walter Bonatti. This detour not only adds variety but also gives you a preview of the alpine charm to come. From here, you’re just a stone’s throw from the start of the Col Ferret trail—one of the absolute highlights of the Tour du Mont Blanc.

Welcome to Switzerland. Today’s hike is gentle and enjoyable, taking you from La Fouly to Champex, a picturesque village in the Swiss Alps. This stage offers a chance to slow down, take in the scenery, and even enjoy a relaxing walk along the shores of Lake Champex, a true hidden gem. You’ll spend the night at the foot of the Fenêtre d’Arpette, in the charming Relais d’Arpette, surrounded by tranquility and breathtaking mountain views.

From Relais D'arpette to Trient

Start the day by passing Gîte Bon Abri. From Plan de l’Au, the trail climbs steadily through forests and meadows to the Alpage de Bovine. After a short break among the grazing cows, continue uphill to the Col de Portalo, the highest point of the day, with stunning views over the Martigny Valley.

Begin your descent through forest paths and open terrain until you reach the Hôtel du Col de la Forclaz. From here, it’s just one final downhill stretch to the village of Trient.

From Trient to Argentière

The Col de la Balme is not only the border between Switzerland and France but also the passage that takes us back to the Chamonix Valley from the opposite end to where we left it. From the top, you have an impressive view of Mont Blanc, the Dru, or the Aiguille du Chardonett. You will hike to the town called Argentière where you will be staying in a hotel.

Argentière to Chamonix

Duration: 07:20 h

The so-called Southern Balcony is a well known excursion for all visitors to Chamonix, but we will take it from La Tête aux Vents. The climb includes sections with ladders and at the end you will enjoy the view from Lac Blanc, one of the most beautiful memories of the trek. You can stop for lunch at the Lac Blanc Refuge before tackling the final stretch to the Planpraz cable car. From there, you can take the cable car to Chamonix. To shorten this stage, you also have the option of descending by cable car from the Refuge de La Flégère. Spend your afternoon exploring Chamonix, and in the evening, enjoy a traditional Savoyard dinner to end your day in style.

Note: The chairlift down to Chamonix stops operating at 5:00 PM. Make sure to plan your descent accordingly.

    In the Hotels, we include Breakfast for you. Bear in mind that lunch and dinner are not included, but they can be most of the time purchased in or near the hotels.

    This trek includes the transfer of your luggage throughout the entire Tour du Mont Blanc trek. Your bags will be picked up every morning y and will be driven to your next accommodation. Baggage transfers allow you to travel lighter during the day and enjoy the hike in a more relaxed manner.

    Our trekking app also includes built-in navigation support. With GPS-based maps and offline access, you can follow the trail confidently and stay on route even without mobile signal.

Excluded

  • Traveling to and from

    You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.

  • Transfers

    Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas, ferries, etc.

  • Lunch

    Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.

  • Travel Insurance

    Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.

  • Personal expenses

    Personal expenses on such as souvenirs, drinks, and other similar expenses are for your own account.
