This 4-day trek in the Fassa Valley is ideal for those who are short on time but still want to enjoy the beauty of the Dolomites and the challenge of this hike. Starting from Campitello di Fassa, the well-marked paths take you through rugged peaks and quiet valleys before reaching the famous Passo Costalunga. Highlights include Col Rodella (2,484 m), Kesselkogel (3,004 m) and Lake Antermoia (2,500 m).

The route weaves through high-altitude paths, rugged ridges and gentle slopes. You will see typical Italian huts in the most unlikely places, nestled in the rocks or surrounded by green pastures. Take the opportunity to stop and taste the local gastronomy, relax or drink a cold beer!

Campitello di Fassa - Rifugio Friedrich August

The itinerary begins in Campitello di Fassa, where a panoramic path leads through meadows and wooded slopes. The well-signposted path climbs steadily eastwards and then westwards, crossing the Col Rodella (2,484 m) and offering unique views of the Dolomites.

The walk is both manageable and pleasant, with gentle hairpin bends. Along the way you'll be rewarded with views of the Sassolungo massif and the valleys below, making this the perfect place to stop, take photos and soak up the alpine beauty.

At the end of the day you'll arrive at your refuge, where a hearty local meal and a warm retreat will set the tone for the adventures to come.

Alternative option: For a more relaxed start, take the cable car from Campitello to Col Rodella, a quick ride followed by an easy 15-minute walk to your refuge.

The second stage takes you through a variety of alpine landscapes with spectacular views at every turn. Starting on gentle terrain, the trail heads west towards the Sandro Pertini Hut, with breathtaking views of the Sassolungo Group and surrounding peaks. This section is perfect for warming up your legs and taking in the tranquil mountain scenery. Continuing along the well-marked path, the route gradually descends into Val Duron, a lush and peaceful valley of meadows and ridges. Here you'll pass the Rifugio Micheluzzi, an ideal place to stop and admire the quiet beauty of the valley before embarking on the more challenging part of the stage.

The final stretch is a steady climb to the Sas de Dona (2,665m), where the landscape changes to dramatic heights surrounded by towering limestone peaks. From here it's a rewarding descent to the Antermoia hut (2,496m) in the heart of the Catinaccio massif.

This stage offers a harmonious mix of gentle valley trails and challenging climbs, culminating in a tranquil alpine hut - the perfect place to recharge for the journey ahead.

Rifugio Antermoia - Rifugio Vajolet

Today's trek takes you through some of the most iconic landscapes in the Dolomites, culminating in the famous Rifugio Vajolet. Starting near the turquoise waters of Lake Antermoia, the trail climbs gently through rugged terrain surrounded by towering peaks. This alpine lake, framed by sheer cliffs, provides a picturesque backdrop to start your day.

As the climb steepens, you'll cross rocky sections near Cima di Laussa (2,876m), where the views become even more spectacular. The dramatic peaks, including the imposing Kesselkogel (3,004m), dominate the skyline and offer a sense of isolation and awe. Over the Lausa Pass, the trail descends through rocky terrain into a peaceful valley, eventually reaching Lago Secco, a tranquil spot ideal for a short break.

The last stretch begins with a right turn towards the Passo delle Pope, where the path gradually climbs along rocky paths. This section takes you to the Vajolet mountain hut, in a breathtaking setting. The day ends with a panoramic view of the iconic Vajolet Towers, a striking symbol of the Dolomites and a fitting reward for the day's efforts.

  • Full travel guide

    We will send you on your way with a digital travel guide that includes a route description for the Val di Fassa, interactive hiking maps, and the most important information applicable to your trek

  • Accommodation

    During your Val di Fassa, you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.

  • Half-board

    Accommodation at the huts includes dinner and breakfast. We will arrange this for you as well. This allows you to travel lighter and have one less thing to worry about. Bear in mind that lunch is not included, but it can be purchased at the huts. Here you can also buy an array of snacks and bottled water.

    You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.

  • Transfers

    Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas etc.

  • Lunch

    Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.

    Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.
