Campitello di Fassa- Rifugio Des Alpes - Rifugio Antermoia

Duration: 05:20 h
Distance: 12.4 km
Ascent: 830 m
Descent: 580 m

The journey begins in Campitello di Fassa. The Col Rodella cable car that normally departs from Campitello will be closed during the 2025 summer season. Instead, you’ll need to start from the Pradel-Rodella lift, which is located approximately 7 km up the valley.

From Laghetto Lupo Bianco, the cable car provides a scenic ascent toward Col Rodella (2,485 m), saving time and energy while treating you to sweeping views of the Dolomites. Once at the top station, a short and panoramic walk leads to Rifugio Des Alpes, a perfect spot to pause and soak in the majestic surroundings of the Sassolungo massif and the Sella Group.

From here, the trail winds through rocky landscapes and alpine meadows, gradually leading into the heart of the Val Duron valley. As you ascend, the terrain becomes more rugged, and the scenery more dramatic, with towering peaks and glacial lakes setting the stage for the next highlight of the trek. By evening, you'll reach the iconic Rifugio Antermoia, nestled near the emerald waters of Lago d’Antermoia, where a warm meal and a cozy refuge await—preparing you for the adventures ahead.

Rifugio Antermoia - Rifugio Vajolet

Duration: 02:30 h
Distance: 5.07 km
Ascent: 260 m
Descent: 520 m

This short and scenic stage follows trail 584 between Rifugio Antermoia and Rifugio Vajolet. It’s a beautiful stretch, especially at the beginning of the season when snow may still linger on higher trails, or during periods of unsettled weather.

The trail begins by skirting the tranquil Lago di Antermoia. Heading west, you'll enjoy expansive views towards the Catinaccio Group and the Vajolet Towers as the path leads you gently to Rifugio Passo Principe—a welcoming hut and a perfect spot for a short break. From there, the trail continues southward, offering a stunning view from Grasleiten Pass into the Rosengarten Valley, before reaching Rifugio Vajolet.

Because of its shorter distance and moderate terrain, this stage allows you to take your time. Pause by the lake, enjoy a longer rest, or simply walk at your own pace while soaking in the scenery.

Rifugio Vajolet - (via Rifugio Passo Santner) - Rifugio Gardeccia

Duration: 04:30 h
Distance: 7.98 km
Ascent: 690 m
Descent: 970 m

This stage follows an exciting Z-shaped route to the Rifugio Gardeccia (1,949m), with a detour to the panoramic Rifugio Santner (2,734m), perched on a dramatic ridge overlooking the Rosengarten Group. Both the ascent and the descent are steep and can feel demanding at times, following narrow paths with several sections aided by cables for extra security. At the top, the wide, amphitheatre-like basin of the Gartl comes into view, a truly rewarding sight after the climb (for those who prefer to avoid this stretch, it is also possible to continue from Rifugio Vajolet directly down to Rifugio Gardeccia).

After enjoying the view, descend past the Rifugio Vajolet and turn south towards the refuge for the night. The terrain gradually flattens out as the path passes through lush meadows beneath the cliffs of the Catinaccio.

At the Rifugio Gardeccia you can relax and, if the weather is good, see the fascinating optical phenomenon of the Dolomites glowing (Enrosadira in Ladin). When the sun goes down, the Dolomites are bathed in pink, violet, red and orange, an unforgettable end to a spectacular day!

Rifugio Gardeccia - Passo Costalunga

Duration: 04:20 h
Distance: 11 km
Ascent: 420 m
Descent: 620 m

The last part of the trek is a gentle descent from the Rifugio Gardeccia along the Sentiero delle Foreste, a quiet path that gradually leaves behind the jagged ridges of the Catinaccio massif. The route leads to the natural amphitheatre of Ciampedie, a picturesque area with several refuges.

Halfway down, at the foot of the Roda del Diavolo (2,727m), is the charming Roda di Vael refuge, ideal for a break with a view of the lush Malga Vael meadows below. The final descent is through wooded paths and open grassland, with 360º views of the valleys, as you approach the Costalunga Pass (1,752m), the end of your adventure.
