Commonly known as “Kilimanjaro’s little brother”, Mount Meru stands tall only 70 kilometers away from its bigger brother, within Arusha National Park. This stunning, dormant volcano is usually overlooked by those trekkers that fly to Tanzania to conquer Uhuru Peak. It is even called “a warm-up before the Kilimanjaro climb”.
What most people don’t know is that Mount Meru, although being a great warm-up for Kili, is a stunning trek by itself! Standing at 4,566 m high, Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second highest mountain and the fourth highest mountain in Africa. Not only do the trails get a lot less trekkers than Kilimanjaro, but it also has an abundance of wildlife.
If you choose to trek in Arusha National Park, you will get the chance to see giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffalos, and elephants near the trails. Get away from the crowds in Kilimanjaro and enjoy the peace and quiet of Mount Meru.
