Unlike the more popular Alta Vias 1 and 2, this trek provides a more personal way to explore the Dolomites. Starting and ending in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the trek covers approximately 30 kilometers, combining valley paths, challenging ascents, and exposed sections that complete the mountain experience.

This trek is for those with a reasonable fitness level and a spirit of adventure. You’ll cross high-altitude passes, enjoy views of peaks like Cristallo and Sorapiss, and relax in comfortable Rifugios after a day of hiking. To ensure a smooth start and finish to your adventure, this tour also includes accommodation in a hotel in Cortina d'Ampezzo before and after the trek. The Alta Via del Camoscio offers the perfect balance of challenge and beauty, giving you the chance to escape the crowds and immerse yourself in the heart of the Dolomites.

Cortina d'Ampezzo to Rifugio Son Forca

Starting from the Guargnè Cable Car in Cortina d'Ampezzo, this trek to Rifugio Son Forca combines scenic views and historical interest. The journey begins with a ride on the cable car, ascending to the mid-station. From there, you will follow a trail that meanders through alpine meadows and larch forests, providing views of the Ampezzo Valley.

As you progress, the path gently ascends, leading you to the Forcella Zumeles pass. This vantage point offers great vistas of the surrounding Dolomite peaks, including Monte Cristallo. Continuing along the trail, you'll encounter remnants of World War I fortifications, a reminder of the area's historical significance. The final stretch involves a moderate climb to Rifugio Son Forca, situated at 2,235 meters. Here, you can rest and enjoy traditional alpine cuisine while soaking in the scenery.

Embarking from Rifugio Son Forca at 2,215 meters, the trail follows path 203 towards Passo Tre Croci. Upon reaching the pass, cross the state road and continue on path 215, which leads to the stunning Lago del Sorapis and Rifugio Vandelli. This segment includes a brief exposed section equipped with ropes, stairs, and bridges. Caution is advised.

  • Booking the huts

    We will take care of arranging accommodation on the Alta Via del Camoscio for you. We will also provide you with a detailed itinerary for every stage and instructions on how to get to the trailhead.

  • Full travel guide

    We will send you on your way with a digital travel guide that includes a route description for the Alta Via del Camoscio, interactive hiking maps, and the most important information applicable to your trek

  • Accommodation

    During your Alta Via del Camoscio, you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.

  • Accommodation before and after the tour

    Accommodation before and after the trek is included. Breakfast is part of your stay.

  • Half board (where possible)

    Accommodation in the huts includes dinner and breakfast, unless otherwise indicated in the exclusive list. This allows you to travel lighter and not have to worry about an extra meal. Please note, however, that lunch is not included, but can be purchased at the huts.

  • Traveling to and from

    You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.

  • Transfers

    Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas etc.

  • Lunch

    Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.

  • Travel Insurance

    Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.

  • Personal expenses

    Personal expenses on such as souvenirs, drinks, and other similar expenses are for your own account.
