Trails: T2 trails
Distance: 0 - 10 km per day
Ascent per day: 500 - 1000 m ascent per day

> Fixed departure dates – instantly confirmed, no hassle
> Gentle distances with big alpine views
> A shorter version of the Höhenweg with all the highlights

This 5-day version of the Lasörling Höhenweg is perfect for beginners ready to take on their first real mountain adventure. By skipping just the final hut, this slightly shorter itinerary still includes everything that makes the Höhenweg special — peaceful valleys, forest trails, and breathtaking views of the Venedigergruppe and Großglocknergruppe. It’s a great way to ease into multi-day trekking without compromising on scenery or experience.

With fixed departure dates and instant confirmation, planning this trek couldn’t be easier. You’ll walk between 4 to 6 hours each day, stay in traditional alpine huts, and enjoy a genuine taste of mountain life in the Austrian Alps — all at a relaxed, beginner-friendly pace.

Even though this route is designed with newcomers in mind, it’s still a real Höhenweg. You’ll come across rocky and occasionally steeper sections, but nothing technical or intimidating. Over five days, you’ll cover around 50 kilometers and climb roughly 3,100 meters. It’s the perfect confidence booster for anyone looking to go beyond the day hike and start their alpine trekking journey.

Hinterbichl - Clarahütte

Duration: 05:25 h
Distance: 11.7 km
Ascent: 810 m
Descent: 100 m
We start the day with an easy and scenic walk towards the Islitzer Alm—make sure to take a break here for a coffee and a generous plate of Kaiserschmarrn (kids love it!). From there, it’s just a short and relaxed stretch to the Umbalfälle, a series of beautiful waterfalls that are also a local favourite, especially on sunny weekends. There's a fun, family-friendly path along the falls with wooden platforms and viewing points that make it extra exciting for little adventurers. After soaking in the views, the trail gently climbs further into the valley. It's a steady but manageable uphill walk to the Clarahütte, perched at 2,038 metres and surrounded by impressive mountain scenery.

Clarahütte - Neue Reichenbergerhütte

Duration: 05:00 h
Distance: 10.1 km
Ascent: 740 m
Descent: 200 m
On the second day, we follow the trail back a short distance before crossing the mountain river Isel—a scenic spot and a nice change of pace. From there, the route leads us into the quiet and picturesque Dabertal valley. If you're hiking in June, there's a good chance you'll come across some lingering patches of snow along the way, adding a touch of alpine charm to the landscape. About halfway through the hike, we enter the Hohe Tauern National Park. The path here is relatively flat and easy-going, making for a pleasant walk with time to take in the views. We end the day at the Neue Reichenberger Hütte, located right next to the serene Bödensee glacial lake—a peaceful and beautiful place to unwind after a rewarding day on the trail.

Neue Reichenbergerhütte - Bergerseehütte

Duration: 06:05 h
Distance: 10.5 km
Ascent: 620 m
Descent: 1010 m
Start the day with a good breakfast—this is one of the tougher stages, but also one of the most rewarding. We begin with a steady climb to the Göslewand, a striking viewpoint high above the valley. From there, it’s a short hike to the Rote Lenke, a mountain pass named after its reddish rock formations. This marks the transition from Bödensee to Kleinbachboden. The trail then heads downhill to the Michtalscharte, where you’ll get fantastic views of the Venedigergruppe. The descent makes this part a bit easier, even for those hiking with kids. After a final stretch, we reach the Bergerseehütte—beautifully located by a mountain lake and a great place to unwind after a full day on the trail.

Bergerseehütte - Lasörlinghütte

Duration: 03:40 h
Distance: 5.2 km
Ascent: 600 m
Descent: 490 m

Today’s stage is short (around 5 km) which makes it a great day if you’re hiking with kids or just feel like taking it a bit easier. But don’t be fooled by the distance: the trail starts with a steep climb, gaining over 500 metres of elevation right away. Once you’ve conquered that, it’s all downhill to the Lasörlinghütte, where there’s plenty of time to rest, play, or simply enjoy the views.

Optional hike: If the kids still have some energy left (or you do!), you can take an optional afternoon walk to the Virgentörl and Gritzerseen. It adds about 5 km and takes roughly 3 hours, but the mountain lakes and wide-open views are definitely worth the effort.

Lasörlinghütte - Virgen

Duration: 04:30 h
Distance: 11.2 km
Ascent: 90 m

From the Lasörlinghütte (2,350 m), the trail descends steadily into the Virgen valley. It follows easy, well-marked T1 paths through open alpine terrain, with wide views of the Venediger and Lasörling ranges—an ideal final stage for families to enjoy together.

As you lose altitude, the landscape gradually shifts from high mountain slopes to shady forests and grassy hillsides. The trail is never technical, making it a relaxed and enjoyable walk, even for kids.

Once you reach the valley floor, the route joins the Iseltrail and follows the glacial-blue Isel river. After crossing a small footbridge, it’s just a short and peaceful walk to the village of Virgen—bringing your family’s mountain adventure to a beautiful close.
