After each day's hike, you'll return to your cabin for a hearty traditional Norwegian meal (full board included) - the perfect end to a day in the great outdoors. Your walking holiday begins and ends in Oslo, with comfortable accommodation before and after your time in Jotunheimen. Are you ready?
Welcome to Norway! Your adventure begins when you arrive in Oslo, Bergen or any other airport in the country. This day is all about settling in and getting ready for an unforgettable trip through spectacular scenery.
On this day you'll start your scenic journey to Geilo. Once there, you will take the train to Finse, a unique and remote destination that can only be reached by train. The train ride offers beautiful views of the Norwegian countryside, making the journey itself an unforgettable part of the adventure.
Once in Finse, if you have any energy left after the long journey, you can enjoy an optional hike to Appelsinhytta to explore the southern area and take in the stunning views. If you prefer to take it easy, you can head to the lakeside to enjoy the beautiful surroundings or simply check into your cozy cabin and relax for the evening before dinner.
You can start with an excursion that goes to and from the lake Finsevatnet. The hike begins with a walk through wild, beautiful countryside. Follow the well-marked trail northwards and enjoy spectacular views of valleys, streams and the surrounding mountains, some of which are almost 1750 metres high. Ready for an adventurous day out in the great outdoors?
After about an hour's walk, 2.5km from the hut, you will come across a fantastic wooden suspension bridge, which is only in use in the summer as it is built and dismantled at the beginning and end of each season. A fun moment for children and adults alike!
The rest of the trail is a gentle slope up to the highest point of the day, the Klemsbu hut at 1584 metres (only open in winter). Use this point to rest, enjoy the view and take some photos. Don't forget to have lunch before returning to the hut. After an enjoyable day's walking, you'll return to Finse full of excitement and memories of a great day out with the whole family.
Today's hike takes you along the north shore of Finsevatnet lake, where you'll pass a number of interesting places. You'll pass through a scenic train tunnel and have the opportunity to stop for lunch or a snack at a lovely picnic area, cross a picturesque summer bridge and walk through a stunning stone field. Continue on to a beautiful overlook-the highest point of the hike-with sweeping views of the lake and surrounding countryside. After taking in the views, retrace your steps and enjoy the quiet beauty of the trail as you return to the refuge. The gentle terrain and peaceful surroundings make this an ideal, relaxing hike with breathtaking vistas.
This hike takes you through some of the most breathtaking and rugged terrain in Norway. The unforgettable adventure takes you among towering peaks and not far from the Blåisen, a majestic glacier. The trail is rocky, green and sometimes wet, with streams and creeks meandering through the landscape, creating a dramatic environment. You'll encounter spectacular vistas with the ever-present sound of rushing and still water, making this hike both visually and emotionally captivating.
The trail also crosses a suspension bridge, adding an element of excitement to the experience. Depending on the season, you'll pass nearby blue ice fields, a unique natural feature that adds to the charm of the area. The combination of rocky trails, lush vegetation and the rugged beauty of the distant glacier makes for an exciting and immersive experience. At the highest point of your trek it is time to return to the hut and rest for the next day.
After breakfast in your hut, it's time to head home. You'll start the morning with a relaxing 45-minute train journey from Finse to Geilo. This train journey gives you one last opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Norwegian countryside, or just try to get some sleep.
