Feel like going on a first hut-to-hut trek with the kids? The Daubensee Kiddies Trek is perfect for that! No crazy climbs, no endless days, but pure Swiss mountain bliss. You’ll hike in the shadow of the towering Gemmi Pass, with wildflowers at your feet and marmots whistling from the rocks. This is where little legs and big smiles meet. And while the kids are counting waterfalls, you’ll be soaking in the magic of the Bernese Alps. This trek loops around the turquoise Daubensee, sleeping in cozy huts like Lämmerenhütte and Berghotel Schwarenbach.
This family-friendly mini-adventure takes three days and is designed for those who want to introduce their kids to real mountain trekking, without the stress. Every day you’ll walk between 5 and 10 kilometers on easy trails (T1 level). Start and finish your trip in Leukerbad. Family goal: unlocked.
From the start at Gemmi station, the trail wastes no time serving up big views. Just minutes in, you’ll reach Daubensee-Blick, where the shrinking Daubensee spreads out below—quiet, blue, and beautiful.
The first three kilometers roll by easy and flat, perfect for warming up and soaking in the alpine air. Then the trail tilts upward. The final kilometer climbs steadily, a reminder that you’re earning those views.
At the top, Daubensee greets you again—this time from above, framed by rock and sky. From here, it’s a short stroll to Lämmerenhütte, where a warm drink and a quiet terrace round off a classic alpine walk.
From the cozy Lämmerenhütte SAC, the day begins by retracing your steps for 2 km, surrounded by rugged peaks and mountain calm. Soon the path turns towards Daubensee, where after 5 km, the shimmering lake comes into view—an inviting spot to pause and take in the reflections of sky and stone.
The trail then follows the lakeshore for 2 peaceful kilometers, with wide-open views and crisp alpine air. A final 2 km leads you to Berghotel Schwarenbach, a welcoming mountain inn—perfect for resting your legs and enjoying the quiet beauty of the Swiss Alps.
Today’s trek starts at the Berghotel Schwarenbach with a gentle climb back towards the lake. Soon, the Daubensee comes into view, and the trail follows its peaceful shoreline, offering stunning views and easy walking.
As you near the end of the stage, the path rises steadily to the Gemmi Pass. Here, at the highest point of your trek, you'll find sweeping views over the lake and a welcome rest spot by the Gemmi cable car station. A perfect finish to your loop around the Daubensee.
You’ll receive access to our trekking app, which serves as your complete digital travel guide for the Daubensee . Inside, you’ll find everything you need for your trek: route descriptions, hiking maps, navigation support, payment information, and all the key details specific to your journey.
During your Daubensee , you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.
Accommodation at the huts includes dinner and breakfast. We will arrange this for you as well. This allows you to travel lighter and have one less thing to worry about. Bear in mind that lunch is not included, but it can be purchased at the huts. Here you can also buy an array of snacks and bottled water.
Our trekking app also includes built-in navigation support. With GPS-based maps and offline access, you can follow the trail confidently and stay on route even without mobile signal.
You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.
Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas, ferries, etc.
Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.
