This trek starts just east of La Paz in the Cordillera Real and ends near Coroico, in the Yungas, a transition ecosystem between the dry Andes and the humid Amazon Basin. You will be following what is probably a Tiwanaku path which pre-dates the Incas but which was undoubtedly used by the Incas as well. The trek is approximately 56 km long and you will pass through a variety of climates. From Coroico you will have views of forested canyons and snowy peaks.

Important: the guides for this tour speak Spanish. If you need an English speaking guide, you can hire one at an extra cost. Ask our trekking experts!

Day

La Paz (3600m) - La Cumbre (4725m) - Challapampa (3000m)

Duration: 05:30 h

Distance: 14 km

Highest Point: 4859 m

We will pick you up early in the morning at your hotel and drive to La Cumbre, the starting point of the trek. There will be a short ascent of about one hour to reach the pass of Abra Chucura (4859m), from where we will start the descent. Part of the day we will follow a pre-Inca road to the village of Challapampa, where we will set up camp for the first night.

Challapampa - Sandillani (2000m)

Duration: 07:30 h

Distance: 19 km

We will begin to see the difference between the dry, arid landscape we came from and the subtropical vegetation we will begin to descend into. After 2 hours of walking we will cross the Rio Chucura and then the Rio Jucumarini. The trail continues through several hamlets such as Buena Vista before stopping to camp in Sandillani.

Sandillani - Chairo (1280m) - La Paz (3600m)

Duration: 02:30 h

Distance: 9 km

We will follow the pre-Inca trail from Sandillani to Chairo, where we will end the trek and meet our transportation back to La Paz. At the end of the trek, you can choose to stay in Coroico or take the transportation back to La Paz. Drop off at the hotel. The end of your journey!
