Your Gesäuse adventure starts in the quiet village of Johnsbach and quickly brings you into the green heart of Austria’s wildest national park. Gentle trails lead through alpine meadows, past curious marmots and bubbling streams. The hiking days are short, but full of fun — perfect for little legs and big imaginations.

You’ll stay in two cozy huts: the panoramic Mödlingerhütte and the tucked-away Oberst-Klinke-Hütte. Expect family-friendly trails, homemade Kaiserschmarrn, and campfire vibes without the tent hassle. It’s all the adventure of a real mountain trek, with none of the stress. Just pack light and get ready for three days of pure alpine magic.

Your adventure in the Gesäuse Kiddies Trek begins in Kaiserau, a sunny and open alpine plateau that's perfect for warming up your legs. From here, the trail leads you steadily uphill through forest paths and open meadows, offering fantastic views of the rugged Gesäuse mountains. Along the way, you'll spot alpine flowers and maybe even a marmot or two! After a gentle but steady climb, you’ll reach the Oberst-Klinke-Hütte, perched at 1,486 meters. This cozy alpine hut welcomes you with warm meals, friendly hosts, and a panoramic view over the Ennstal valley. A perfect place to relax, play, and enjoy your first overnight stay in the mountains with the whole family.

    You’ll receive access to our trekking app, which serves as your complete digital travel guide for the Gesäuse Trek . Inside, you’ll find everything you need for your trek: route descriptions, hiking maps, navigation support, payment information, and all the key details specific to your journey.

  • Accommodation

    During your Gesäuse Trek , you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.

  • Breakfast in hotels (where possible)

    Accommodation in the hotels includes breakfast whenever possible. We will arrange this for you as much as possible in advance. Please note that lunch and dinner are not included, but can be ordered at the accommodation or in the village.

  • Navigation support

    Our trekking app also includes built-in navigation support. With GPS-based maps and offline access, you can follow the trail confidently and stay on route even without mobile signal.

Excluded

  • Transfers

    Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas, ferries, etc.

  • Travel Insurance

    Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.

  • Personal expenses

    Personal expenses on such as souvenirs, drinks, and other similar expenses are for your own account.

  • Payment Mödlingerhütte

    The Mödlingerhütte only accepts cash payments on site. Bookatrekking.com takes care of your reservation but you will need to complete the payment on arrival. The reservation includes your stay plus half board and costs approximately €75 per person. Make sure you bring enough cash.
