¡Hola La Gomera! La Gomera is no longer a secret among hiking enthusiasts, yet it remains blissfully untouched by mass tourism. No all-in hotels, no fighting over beach chairs, and no fish 'n chips. This is La Gomera, the green pearl of the Canary Islands, loved by hikers, nature lovers, and those who appreciate the authentic Canarian way of life. Hiking from point to point, climbing the highest peak on the island, short day hikes, or walking across the island via the GR route. Looking for a walking paradise? La Gomera is it.

Self-guided on the GR131, La Gomera’s Camino Naturalis. Your 7-day adventure takes you through the island’s most spectacular landscapes—deep ravines, misty laurel forests, and volcanic peaks—all while experiencing the tranquility of remote villages. To wrap up your journey and return to your location, you'll also hike a section of the GR132, the trail that circles the entire island. Each day, you will walk from hotel to hotel, and we will ensure that your luggage is waiting for you in the evening. No worries, just walking. Vamos!

San Sebastian de La Gomera - Degollada de Peraza - Chipude

Duration: 05:00 h
Distance: 15.6 km
Ascent: 720 m
Descent: 540 m
Welcome to the GR131, the iconic trail linking all the Canary Islands, with La Gomera as a true highlight. Your day begins in San Sebastián de La Gomera, where you’ll take a short taxi ride to Degollada de Peraza, skipping the initial climb to save energy. Here, at a historic viewpoint, indigenous warrior Hautacuperche once led a rebellion against Spanish rule. From this dramatic pass, the trail winds through deep canyons, lush laurel forests, and striking rock formations—some of the island’s most breathtaking scenery. Entering Garajonay National Park, you’ll step into a misty, prehistoric world of ancient greenery, a rare ecosystem once common in Southern Europe. The day ends in Chipude, a charming mountain village beneath the towering Fortaleza de Chipude, a former refuge for the island’s early inhabitants. After a rewarding day of hiking, you can relax and take in the tranquil atmosphere of this historic town.

Chipude - Vallehermoso

Duration: 04:50 h
Distance: 14.4 km
Ascent: 240 m
Descent: 1130 m
The square of Chipude is where the third stage of the GR131 begins. You pass the unique villages of El Cercado and Las Hayas, both locally famous for their pre-colonial pottery. Once again, laurel forests are on the menu today. These are interspersed with breathtaking views over valleys and, unlike the first stage, you descend considerably today. Officially, the stage ends at the beach of Vallehermoso, but your GPX stops in the village. Continuing northwards, you'll arrive at the beautiful Playa de Vallehermoso after 20 minutes or so.

Vallehermoso - Hermigua

Duration: 05:30 h
Distance: 20.2 km
Ascent: 950 m
Descent: 990 m
Playa de Vallehermoso, where you might have gone for a refreshing swim yesterday is the official end of the GR131. We haven't had enough of it yet so we seamlessly hike on to the GR132, the route that circles the entire island. Vallehermoso is actually so nice that you'll want to go there again. There is time for that on day 7. Today an almost 6-hour hike to Hermigua awaits. Endless views over the sea, a stop in Agulo, where you can still visit the springboard and via the Santa Catalina beach to that cold beer in your hotel.

Duration: 05:30 h
Distance: 18.6 km
Ascent: 780 m
Descent: 910 m
You'll make one last hit on the GR132 before stretching your legs in San Sebastian. Green valleys, palm trees and the occasional sheep on the terraces. Just before San Sebastian you climb one more good climb, the last chance to take it all in at once. Cherish this moment because when you get back to San Sebastian, the quiet is finished.

The going is tough. If you still have the legs, it's a good idea to get up early today because there's still a lot to explore. Indeed, today's options might well give you that final push to travel to La Gomera once more. Take a taxi to Vallehermoso or check out the part you haven't checked out yet, Valle Gran Rey. Whatever you do, your last day in La Gomera will be worth it.

Departing La Gomera

Late flight from Tenerife? How lucky. Then you might be able to explore San Sebastian's old town centre this morning if you haven't already. Or, maybe there's still some time for a stroll along San Sebastian beach and a very last swim before you board the ferry (ferry ticket is not included). ¡Hasta luego!
