The High Tatras in northern Slovakia are an absolute dream! They're one of the most rugged mountain ranges in Europe outside the Alps and Pyrenees, with breathtaking natural beauty that will take your breath away. Imagine towering peaks over 2,600 metres high, dense pine forests and sparkling lakes. Although relatively undiscovered outside central Europe, the region has been a popular trekking destination for decades. Mountain huts and strategically placed hotels offer the perfect mix of adventure and comfort.

This 7-day package includes a 5-day hut-to-hut trek through the heart of the Tatras, with two extra nights in hotels before and after the trek for a well-rounded experience. One of the highlights is the ascent of Rysy (2,501m), which marks the border between Slovakia and Poland. It is the highest peak in Poland, with the Slovak side being the starting point for this trip. Ready to cross the Tatras with us?

Zamkovského Chata - Sliezsky Dom (challenging)

Duration: 05:40 h
Distance: 11.6 km
Ascent: 920 m
Descent: 720 m
Lowest Point: 1310 m
Highest Point: 2230 m

Today you will venture deep into the Tatras, passing through forested valleys, rivers, and dramatic rocky terrain. You start with a descent until you reach a wooden bridge over the Studené Doliny River. After crossing, your ascent begins. Around 2,000 meters, the landscape turns alpine, with scenic mountain lakes, perfect for a snack, lunch, or even a (very) cold swim.

From here, the trail becomes more demanding as it climbs toward a mountain pass near the shoulder of Divá Vež (2,376 m). This section includes ladders, chains, and exposed passages, so be prepared for a bit of adventure.

After the pass, you descend to the charming Sliezsky Dom mountain hotel, located on the shore of the small alpine lake Velické Pleso.

If you prefer to avoid ladders and chains, consider taking the alternative route described in option 2.

Summit Hike Ryse

Duration: 06:00 h
Distance: 11.4 km
Ascent: 920 m
Descent: 930 m
Highest Point: 2501 m

The trail to the mountain Ryse starts easy with a gradual ascent at first. After about a kilometer and a half the summit trail veers off to the right and the character of the route changes dramatically. You start ascending steeply in an ever more rugged environment. Pass the small lake on your left and keep going up until you are at the small mountain shelter called Chata Pod Rymsi. From here it's 45 minutes to the summit of Ryse through high alpine terrain, with chains to hold on to at the most steep parts. You're now right on the border of Slovakia and Poland and on top of Poland's highest mountain. You return the same way you came. Take care, it might be harder than the way up, especially when it's wet.

Note: This is one of the most popular day hikes in the region, so we recommend starting early to enjoy the trail before it gets crowded.
