What's the plan?
Day 1: Luangnamtha – Ban Nalan Neua (Kmu tribe)
Day 2: Ban NalanNeua – Ban Namkoy – Ban Jaleunsouk – Luangnamtha
You will wake up early, and maybe you would like to take a cold shower or a swim in the river, or walk through the villages and witness how the locals prepare for their working day. After you can relax and drink coffee or tea and enjoy a locally prepared breakfast. You will depart from the village around 9 am, walk along the river bank for an hour to a nearby village of Khmu tribe – Ban Nalan Tai. We will continue walking on to another village of Ban Namkoy (Lantan tribe). The tribe which derives from a Chinese origin and who still wear traditional clothes, make their own textile and do natural dyeing. In the dry season, they make bamboo paper for recording stories. After spending a while in the village we will head onward through the forest and climb up a mountain. FAQ
FAQNam Ha National Protected Area
The Nam Ha National Protected Area is a famous eco-tourism destination in Laos. The national protected area is located in Luang Namtha Province, in northern Laos, and is home to a variety of ethnic groups and diverse animal and plant species. The Park comprises 2,224 square kilometers and its highest peak stands at 2,094 meters above sea level.
Best season
Laos is a landlocked country and its geography plays a major part in shaping its climate. Trekking in Laos can be done all year long. However, if you are going to be doing a jungle trek, it is always advisable to choose your dates during the dry season. The dry season in Laos lasts from October to May and it is the best time to visit Laos to enjoy its lush nature. The 'green season’ falls between July to October. During these months the rains return to the country and the treks in the jungle become more adventurous. Fortunately, showers are usually short and don't have much impact on your trek.
Tipping
Tipping is appreciated but it is not expected in Laos. Tipping in Asian countries should always be considered a gesture of appreciation for good service and not an obligation. If you got a good service from your guide and you want to thank him with a tip, that is ok. It is up to you how much to tip.
Training
Although the treks are not so long, you must bear in mind that you will be trekking several hours a day for several days in the jungle. Also, remember that you will be carrying your own backpack, together with your sleeping bag and water for the day. When it comes to trekking, the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy your trek. So, in order to make the most out of your trek in Laos, getting in shape is always a good idea. Try walking a few hours a day with a backpack for a few weeks before your trip.
