At the end of each day, return to your cosy cabin where you'll be treated to traditional Norwegian food and warm hospitality. These cabins are perfect for relaxing and sharing stories about your trip. The Rondane Experience is ideal for those who want to explore Norway's first national park at a leisurely pace, while creating lasting memories in the great outdoors.
Welcome to Norway! Your adventure begins when you arrive in Oslo, Bergen or any other airport in the country. This day is all about settling in and getting ready for an unforgettable trip through spectacular scenery.
Today you will start your day with a scenic trip to Rondane National Park. Once there, your trek begins at Spranget, the gateway to a fascinating hike to Rondvassbu hut, the largest and most welcoming cabin in Rondane. From the car park at Spranget, a gravel road provides a quiet and scenic introduction to your adventure. This 2-hour walk is the perfect way to ease into the hiking experience, rewarding you with breathtaking views of Rondane's peaks along the way. A peaceful start to an unforgettable experience!
On the way to Rondvassbu cabin, the children will love exploring the area in the fresh mountain air. Just before you reach the cabin, you can cross a small wooden bridge and enjoy a waterfall with a raging torrent that flows from Fremre Illmannstjern into the river that joins Lake Lonin. Another 15 minutes and you'll reach the hut, where you can enjoy some local food and a well-earned rest before tomorrow's adventure.
Today's trek starts at Rondvassbu hut and heads towards the impressive Rondslottet (2178m), but don't worry, you don't have to hike that high. The walk starts with a gentle climb to a fork where the path splits. Take the one on the left and enjoy walking along some distinctive rocks, including a unique feature known as the Round Table. This is a great place to take a break, take some pictures of the magnificent views or even enjoy a picnic.
Continue along the path and you will soon reach the saddle between Vinjeronden and Storronden. On a clear day the view is absolutely breathtaking, with sweeping vistas of the surrounding mountains. From here, the path becomes much steeper and the climb more challenging, but if you decide to continue, you'll be rewarded with even more incredible views. If you don't feel up to the full climb, don't worry! You can always turn back and follow the same route back to your hut. You'll have time to relax and be the first to enjoy a well-earned Norwegian dinner!
Note: Only adventurous families with previous walking experience are recommended to reach Vinjeronden (2044 m), please be wise and safe. If your children have the energy and fitness to continue from the viewpoint to the summit, go for it!
Today is an exciting family adventure! You will enjoy a wonderful round trip, starting and finishing at Rondvassbu Cabin, with the added excitement of a scenic ferry ride. Start your adventure by taking the ferry across the long and narrow Rondvatnet lake, with incredible views of the surrounding mountains and calm waters. Once on the north shore, spend a few hours exploring before returning by boat.
The scenic round trip is a leisurely and relatively flat walk, making it an easy and enjoyable hike for both children and adults. From the north shore of the Rondvatnet lake, you walk past a number of bodies of water until you reach a large mountain lake called Bergedalstjønnin, a popular stop for wild campers. Take in the view - you're surrounded by beautiful hills, calm waters, a sandy beach and soft grass all around. It's also a great place to take a break, just in time for lunch!
To make it back in time for the ferry, you can retrace your steps to complete your walk and take in the scenery again. This relaxing family day was the perfect and enjoyable mix of nature and adventure.
Note: Please note that the stage details (distance and duration) include the walk only, not the round boat trip.
Today's route starts at Rondvassbu cabin and heads east towards the Illmanntjørnin lakes. The trail is easy to moderate and easy to follow. Start by walking past Lonin lake and turn left just before the waterfall, leaving it to your right. The landscape changes slightly as you head towards the Illmanntjørnin lakes, which make their way through the rugged and grey terrain. You'll be rewarded with greener and more lush views as you make your way towards the various bodies of water.
The walk is gentle and mostly flat, with manageable distances and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the scenery of Rondane National Park. The Illmanntjørnin lakes themselves are nestled in a quiet valley, offering a tranquil atmosphere perfect for breaks and plenty of photo opportunities. The walk is relatively easy, so you can enjoy nature and connect with the environment before returning to Rondvassbu for a well-earned dinner and a night's sleep.
After breakfast and a well-deserved rest, your adventure continues with a gentle walk from your cabin back to the Spranget car park. This easy walk is perfect for taking in the views and saying goodbye to the natural beauty of Rondane National Park - a great way to end your time in the area. Once you have reached the car park, you can already start your journey back to Oslo.
After checking out of your hotel, your family adventure comes to an end. Today you can either continue your journey through beautiful Norway or return home with unforgettable memories of your trekking experience. Whether you decide to explore more of Norway or just relax at home, this incredible family trip will stay with you forever. We wish you a safe journey and hope to see you on the trails!
