> Hike the full Stubai High Trail in 9 days> Spend your nights in cozy mountain huts
> Bookatrekking.com arranges all the huts along the way
The Stubaier Höhenweg, or the Stubai High Trail, is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the Austrian Alps. The hike begins in the village of Neustift in Stubaital in the heart of Tyrol, not far from Innsbruck. The Stubaier Höhenweg is the highlight of hut hikes in Austria and can be walked by young and old if they are sufficiently prepared.
During this 9-day Stubaier Höhenweg you hike all the stages and stay each night in one of the beautiful mountain huts. This version of the Höhenweg starts at the Starkenburger Hut and ends at the Innsbrucker Hut on the other side of the valley. Tourismusverband Stubaital ensures that your stay at all huts on the Höhenweg is arranged. Half board will also be booked for you. That way, you don't have to carry food along with you on the way and you can relax carefree when you're not hiking.
Today's stage with few miles but beautiful views. Enjoy the stony surroundings as you slowly balance over the loose rocks here. Hold on to a cable here and there until you take a break at the Sulzenau See. Then continue walking toward the Sulzenau Hütte and enjoy the glacier-touched rocks.
From the Sulzenau Hütte, it is worth taking an additional hike and visiting the "blauen Lacke." This lake is one of the locations of the Wild Water Trail in the Stubai Mountains. Because the lake is filled with meltwater from the upper glacier, the lake is usually a distinct blue-turquoise color.
The next stage of the Stubaier Höhenweg lies before you. However, this stage is tough and should not be underestimated. The transition from the Bremer Hütte to the Innsbrucker Hütte is one of the most demanding stages of the Stubaier Höhenweg. Calculate for hiking times of 6 to 7 hours, plus 3 steep climbs with an altitude difference of about 200 to 300 altimeters. This section of the hut tour through the Stubai Valley is for experienced mountain hikers a "nice weather route". So be careful, especially when the weather is not optimal.
It may be a challenging stage where the right mindset and perseverance are indispensable, but then this makes for a real mountain goat experience. Because you have to ascend and descend 3 times, impressive rock formations and green plains alternate. This provides a continuous variation in scenery as you climb along the mountain sides. After a long day you will arrive at the Innsbrucker Hütte where you can celebrate today's victory with a well-deserved cold beer.
We will send you on your way with a digital travel guide that includes a route description for the Stubaier Höhenweg, interactive hiking maps, and the most important information applicable to your trek
During your Stubaier Höhenweg, you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.
Accommodation at the huts includes dinner and breakfast. We will arrange this for you as well. This allows you to travel lighter and have one less thing to worry about. Bear in mind that lunch is not included, but it can be purchased at the huts. Here you can also buy an array of snacks and bottled water.
You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.
Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas, ferries, etc.
Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.
Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.
Personal expenses on such as souvenirs, drinks, and other similar expenses are for your own account.
The stay in the Starkenburger Hütte is reserved but not paid. The Starkenburger Hütte only accepts cash, therefore the price of about 70 EUR per person is not included in the total price and has to be paid in the hut.
