Tusheti to Khevsureti via Atsunta Pass trek

After breakfast we begin the most difficult part of our Omalo Shatili tour. We follow the narrow gorge above Girevi, cross small mountain streams, the ruined village of Chontio and stop at Kvakhidi. This is a place of open green fields, alpine meadows and rocky outcrops. Here we pitch our tents and have dinner. Overnight stay in tents.

Early in the morning we start our trek to the highest point of our journey. We reach the Atsunta Pass at an altitude of 3431 m. Here we stop for a snack and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding alpine meadows and mountains. We then descend to the Khidotani ridge and camp on an open alpine meadow. Overnight in tents.

After breakfast in the beautiful countryside, we descend into the narrow gorge and reach the first settlement in Khevsureti. After passing the village of Khone, we walk to the village of Mutso, which is now largely abandoned but still surprises visitors with its beautiful surroundings, towers and architectural style. The Mutso fortress complex has recently been renovated. We make a detour and walk 2km to Mutso Fortress. Near Mutso our driver will be waiting for us. From here we drive to the village of Shatili and then to Tbilisi.
