Think quiet inland villages, ancient paths, hilltop monasteries, and views that drop straight into the Ionian Sea. This six-day trek is your invitation to meet the real Zakynthosbeyond the postcards and beach bars.

This version of the Zakynthos Trail is made for intermediate hikers who want to experience the full island loop on foot. You’ll start and finish in Zakynthos town, and each day brings new terrain, from rolling hills to forest paths and coastal viewpoints. Accommodation is arranged from start to finish, including two nights in Zakynthos town so you can simply lace up and go.

You begin your island trek in the lively town of Zakynthos. Soon the buzz fades as you step into olive groves and coastal paths leading toward Laganas. The Ionian Sea glistens beside you while the scent of wild herbs lingers in the air. You pass hidden chapels and catch glimpses of the southern coastline before descending to the beach town of Laganas. Known for its loggerhead turtles and nightlife, this is where nature and culture clash in the best way possible.

Leaving the coast behind, you climb into the rugged inland hills of Zakynthos. The trail winds through pine forests and dry stone terraces, offering panoramic views over the southern coastline. As you ascend, the landscape shifts more wild, more dramatic. You’ll pass the Damianos Caves and perhaps spot some wild goats before reaching the sleepy village of Agalas. Sunset views here are spectacular the kind that stop you in your tracks.

Agalas - Alykanas

This stage takes you across the spine of the island. From Agalas, you traverse ancient trails connecting remote villages and grazing lands. The island’s interior unfolds with olive groves, fig trees, and sweeping mountain views. The descent to Alykanas brings you back to the sea, with turquoise bays waiting at the finish. This day blends the wild heart of Zakynthos with its gentle beach charm. Don’t skip the evening swim.
