FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Mount Olympus famous?
Mount Olympus is the highest peak in Greece and one of the highest peaks in Europe. Its summit, Mytikas, rises up to 2,917 meters above sea level. This stunning massif is one of the most famous in the world. With stunning beauty, remoteness, and majesty, it is no surprise that the Ancient Greeks believed it to be the home of their most important gods, sitting on Mytikas peak. The mountain captivates the visitor at first sight with its incomparable natural beauty and the wealth of its ancient history.
When is the best season to climb Mount Olympus?
We organize our Mount Olympus and Meteora walking holiday between June and September each year. Temperatures can get pretty chilly even during the summer months, while rain is always a possibility. Bear in mind that the Plateau of the Muses lies at an altitude of 2,700m and altitude sickness symptoms might be present.
How much should I tip my Mount Olympus guide?
Tipping in Greece is expected in most places, but it is by no means obligatory. Of course, there is no set standard for how much to tip when you got a good service. As regards tipping your tour guide, tipping between 2 to 5 Euros per person, per day of trek, is a good reference.
How hard is climbing Mount Olympus?
Though previous experience is not necessary, a basic fitness level is required for this trek. You are strongly advised to come prepared for a real trekking experience. While hiking in Mount Olympus, you will have to be prepared to carry clothes and gear to spend 3 days οn the mountain, hopping from refuge to refuge and you will be walking up to 8 hours a day.

Being fit for your trek in Greece will not only make the hike safer for you, but also for your team. If you are unsure about being able to complete this trek, we advise you to start training a few weeks in advance, walking a few hours a day, carrying a backpack. Climbing stairs also helps.
