There are very few mountains with such an air of mythicism as Mount Olympus. The bulk of this impressive mountain massif towers high above the lower hills of northern Greece and it’s easy to see why the people in ancient Greece thought this was the realm from where the Greek Gods ruled their world. Nowadays Mount Olympus is paradise for hikers and mountaineers. A vast network of hiking trails lead to the highest summits in the country, including Mytikas with 2918 metres the highest point in Greece. And the great thing is that you don’t have to carry camping equipment to do a multi-day trek. Each night you can stay in one of the cosy mountain huts, located in old-growth pine forests and on high-alpine mountain ridges. Opa! Instead of going straight for the summit of Mount Olympus, you can hike a beautiful circular route from hut to hut. It’s the perfect way to take in the variety of landscapes and meet like-minded trekkers along the route.
