If you want a real adventure in the Italian Dolomites, the Alta Via del Camoscio is the trek for you. Unlike the popular Alta Vias 1 and 2, this route offers a more personal way to explore the Dolomites. Starting and ending in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the 3-day trek covers about 30 kilometers, mixing tranquil valley walks and alpine meadows with rugged ascents, exposed sections with cables, and breathtaking views.

This trek is ideal for adventurous beginners: the stages are relatively short—usually between 3 and 4 hours—so you can take your time and enjoy the scenery without overdoing it. The first day brings a big ascent, while the following days are more moderate, balancing effort with plenty of opportunities to relax. Along the way you’ll experience everything from calm trails to adrenaline-filled moments on steeper, more exposed parts.

After a day of hiking, you’ll unwind in welcoming Rifugios, and to make your journey hassle-free, this package also includes a hotel stay in Cortina d'Ampezzo before and after the trek. Cortina d'Ampezzo to Rifugio Son Forca

Starting from Cortina d'Ampezzo, this trek to Rifugio Son Forca combines scenic views and historical interest. The journey begins with an ascent through a trail that meanders through alpine meadows and larch forests, providing views of the Ampezzo Valley.

As you progress, the path gently ascends, leading you to the Forcella Zumeles pass. This vantage point offers great vistas of the surrounding Dolomite peaks, including Monte Cristallo. Continuing along the trail, you'll encounter remnants of World War I fortifications, a reminder of the area's historical significance. The final stretch involves a moderate climb to Rifugio Son Forca, situated at 2,235 meters. Here, you can rest and enjoy traditional alpine cuisine while soaking in the scenery.

Upon reaching the pass, cross the state road and continue on path 215, which leads to the stunning Lago del Sorapis and Rifugio Vandelli. This segment includes a brief exposed section equipped with ropes, stairs, and bridges. Caution is advised.

Rifugio Vandelli to Cortina d'Ampezzo

Begin your final stage at Rifugio Vandelli by following trail 215 for a short stretch. Soon after, switch to trail 216, which offers panoramic views of the stunning Lago di Sorapis. This section features varied terrain, including T3 and T4 level paths, with a few exposed areas. The most challenging segment is relatively short and equipped with safety cables for extra security.

As you ascend toward the Marcoira Fork, the highest point of this stage, you’ll enjoy breathtaking alpine vistas. A short stretch after the fork, take the turnoff onto trail 213 and begin your descent toward Passo Tre Croci. Along the way, soak in expansive views of the majestic Monte Cristallo range.

This rewarding final stretch concludes at Passo Tre Croci, where you’ll catch a bus back to Cortina d'Ampezzo. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance: the last bus typically departs around 18:00, though exact times may vary depending on the season. Direct buses run every one to two hours and take approximately 20 minutes.

Booking the huts

We will take care of arranging accommodation on the Alta Via del Camoscio for you. We will also provide you with a detailed itinerary for every stage and instructions on how to get to the trailhead.
Full travel guide

You’ll receive access to our trekking app, which serves as your complete digital travel guide for the Alta Via del Camoscio. Inside, you’ll find everything you need for your trek: route descriptions, hiking maps, navigation support, payment information, and all the key details specific to your journey.
Accommodation

During your Alta Via del Camoscio, you will spend your nights in mountain huts. In the mountain huts we normally only book dormitories, but we can look into private rooms on request. If the private rooms are fully booked or not available in the hut, we automatically book a bed in dormitories for you. Please note that private rooms are more expensive and there will be an additional charge for this.
Accommodation before and after the tour

Accommodation before and after the trek is included. Breakfast is (if possible) part of your stay.
Half board (where possible)

Accommodation in the huts includes dinner and breakfast, unless otherwise indicated in the exclusive list. This allows you to travel lighter and not have to worry about an extra meal. Please note, however, that lunch is not included, but can be purchased at the huts.
Navigation support

Our trekking app also includes built-in navigation support. With GPS-based maps and offline access, you can follow the trail confidently and stay on route even without mobile signal.

Traveling to and from

You have to make your own way to the starting point. The total amount does not include personal transport.
Transfers

Should you need any form of (public) transport on location, this is not part of the trekking package. This includes the use of taxi, bus, cable cars, gondolas, ferries, etc.
Lunch

Half-board is included in the price of this trek. Lunch, however, is not. You can get something to eat at the mountain huts along the way.
Travel Insurance

Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.
