If there were a list of the most beautiful lakes in Europe, Oeschinensee, or Lake Oeschinen, would rank high. Sure, there is Lago di Braies, Lake Bled or Lac Blanc, but there is something very special about this marvelous spot in Switzerland. And UNESCO agrees because the Oeschinensee is a World Heritage site. We are not here to tell you which is the most beautiful lake in the Alps but the Swiss would probably tell you it’s the Oeschinensee. Lake Oeschinen is not just a pretty picture for Instagram, it is also a top destination for hiking, rowing, and in winter even ice skating. What do the Rhine, the Reuss, the Ticino and the Rhone have in common? They all originate in Switzerland and the springs are so close together that you can see all four on foot. This roughly 80-kilometer trek is punctuated by a combination of mountain huts and hotels. The hut-trekking feeling mixed with a bit more comfort. Like the Tour des Combins, for example, the Tour des Muverans is one of the Alps' better-kept secrets. Away from the Instagram masses of the Tour du Mont Blanc, back to the basics of the classic hut-to-hut tour. Pure hiking, classic cabanes and, of course, raclette! The Tour des Muverans connects the cantons of Vaud and Valais around the Muverans mountain peak massif. The Muverans massif is located between Lake Geneva, Sion and Martigny, making getting to and from it very easy. It's a fantastic example of hut to hut hiking Switzerland, offering accessibility combined with stunning alpine scenery.
