> A short & spicy trek for experienced hikers and via ferrata enthusiasts
> Discover the rugged heart of the Brenta Dolomites away from the busy Alta Vias
> Breakfast included

This 3-day ‘Short & Spicy’ adventure in the Dolomiti di Brenta packs more excitement into three days than many longer treks. Located in the western part of Trentino, this lesser-known corner of the Dolomites is renowned for its dramatic limestone towers, remote mountain scenery, and iconic via ferrata routes. Expect a true high-alpine experience far from the crowds that frequent the more famous Alta Via trails.

The route starts near Madonna di Campiglio and traverses some of the most spectacular terrain in the Brenta Dolomites. Steep ascents, rocky mountain paths, exposed traverses, and challenging via ferrata sections make this trek suitable only for experienced hikers with previous via ferrata experience. Proper via ferrata equipment, sure-footedness, and a good head for heights are essential. The combination of technical terrain and breathtaking scenery makes this one of the most rewarding short treks in the Dolomites.

Each night, you'll stay in traditional rifugi, where warm hospitality, hearty mountain meals, and unforgettable views await. From dramatic ridgelines and towering rock walls to quiet valleys and remote alpine landscapes, this trek delivers a complete Dolomites experience. If you're looking for a short but demanding adventure that combines trekking with classic Brenta via ferratas, this route is hard to beat.

Madonna di Campiglio - Rifugio Tuckett (Valley Route)

Duration: 05:00 h

Descent: 330 m

Your trek begins in Madonna di Campiglio. Walk along Via Vallesinella to reach Rifugio Vallesinella. The sound of waterfalls will guide you on your ascent through the forest. Rifugio Tuckett - Rifugio Alimonta (Advanced, includes Via Ferrata)

Duration: 07:00 h
Distance: 13.7 km
Ascent: 1100 m
Descent: 760 m

Disclaimer: The Via Ferrata Alfredo Benini, on the first half of this trek, has been affected by rockfall and is temporarily closed. Please note that maintenance and repair work is expected during the first part of the 2026 summer season, which may result in temporary closures. Please check with the hut warden before setting out to confirm whether the route has been reopened and is safe to pass. If the closure remains in place, follow Route Option 2 or Route Option 3 instead.

Your day begins at the Tuckett Hut with a steady approach into the heart of the Brenta Dolomites. After roughly 3.5 kilometres, the route joins the Via Ferrata Alfredo Benini, the first equipped section of the day. This via ferrata follows exposed ledges beneath Cima Falkner and the surrounding Brenta peaks, with impressive views and airy passages throughout. Although it is considered one of the more beginner-friendly via ferratas in the Brenta, it still requires proper via ferrata equipment, sure-footedness, and a good head for heights. These exposed sections should only be attempted in stable weather conditions and with good visibility.

Shortly after completing the Alfredo Benini section, the challenge continues with the SOSAT Via Ferrata. This second equipped route is more demanding and is generally considered moderate, meaning previous via ferrata experience is essential. Much of the trail crosses exposed terrain, with several secured sections, narrow ledges, and vertical ladders that require confidence, focus, and careful movement. As with all via ferratas, good weather and clear visibility are essential for a safe crossing. This is not a simple hiking stage, but a serious high-alpine traverse for trekkers who are comfortable on protected climbing routes.

Along the way, the route offers dramatic views of the Brenta Dolomites, the Adamello range, and, from certain points, Lake Molveno. After the exposed and technical sections of the SOSAT trail, the path eventually descends towards the Alimonta Hut, a spectacular refuge surrounded by towering rock walls. By the time you arrive, you will have completed one of the most demanding and memorable stages of the trek.

As you drop down past Rifugio Brentei and into greener valleys, the trail winds through rocky terrain, a mountain tunnel, and peaceful forest paths. Waterfalls begin to appear as you reach the Vallesinella area, where the sound of cascading water welcomes you to the valley. Your trek ends at the welcoming Rifugio Vallesinella – the perfect place to rest and reflect on an unforgettable journey. From there, you can return to the alpine town of Madonna di Campiglio via Via Vallesinella.
