> Stay at Refugio de la Renclusa and Refugio Artiga de Lin
> Add an optional climb to Salvaguardia Peak for extra challenge

The Aneto Lakes Loop Adventure is a 3-day hut-to-hut trek through one of the most scenic parts of the Pyrenees. From the start, this route is all about water and high mountain scenery: Ibón Bajo de Villamuerta, the Upper Lake of Villamuerta, Ibón de Paderna, Lac deth Còth deth Hòro, and the powerful Aigualluts Waterfall all feature along the way. Step by step, you move deeper into the Aneto region, where rocky trails, clear lakes, and wide mountain views set the tone. This is Pyrenean hiking with plenty to look at and plenty to work for.

You spend the night at Refugio de la Renclusa and Refugio Artiga de Lin, two classic Pyrenean huts that fit perfectly with the rhythm of this 3-day route. Along the way, the terrain becomes more varied, with lake basins, rougher paths, and sections that feel properly alpine without turning the trek into a full expedition. For hikers who want to add some extra spice, there is the option to climb Salvaguardia Peak, a fine bonus for those with strong legs and a bit of adventure in the tank. Three days, two huts, waterfalls, lakes, and one very handsome corner of the Pyrenees. Vamos.

Llanos del Hospital Parking - Renclusa Hut

Duration: 04:25 h
Distance: 11 km
Ascent: 720 m
Descent: 310 m

This is a moderate mountain stage from Llanos del Hospital Parking to Renclusa Hut. You begin in the Ésera valley and gradually work your way higher into the mountains, following open paths through a broad alpine landscape. With 720 m of ascent, the route has a steady uphill character, but it is not a technical stage. The final section climbs more directly towards the hut.

From the parking area, you follow the route beside the Ésera river, gaining height step by step as the valley becomes more mountainous. The trail passes through open pasture and rougher mountain terrain, with views across the surrounding slopes. You walk by Ibón Bajo de Villamuerta Lake and the Upper Lake of Villamuerta before continuing towards the Aigualluts area.

The route then continues to Forau de Aiguallut and the Aigualluts Waterfall, two clear highlights before the final climb. From the waterfall, it is one last uphill stretch to Renclusa Hut, set higher in the mountains. If you still have energy after arriving, you can follow the trail west towards Ibón de Paderna lake for an extra short hike.

Renclusa Refuge - Refugio Artiga de Lin

Duration: 03:40 h
Distance: 7.71 km
Ascent: 330 m
Descent: 1000 m

From the Renclusa hut the route crosses high alpine terrain before descending into the green heart of the Aran Valley. After an initial ascent to a gentle col the path rolls across grassy plateaus and then drops toward the famous plains and waterfalls of Aiguallut. Beyond this balcony the landscape becomes wilder again as we aim for Coll de Toro, before a long descent leads to forests and meadows surrounding Artiga de Lin.

Leaving the refuge at about 2140 m we climb on a clear path toward Cuello Ancho, then descend gently to Plan Alto d Aiguallut. Here a short detour allows us to admire the waterfall and the deep Forau, where the waters disappear underground. Crossing the plain we follow waymarks toward Coll de Toro, on a less defined but still visible track, and as we climb the valley opens in every direction.

Reaching Coll de Toro we enter the Aran side and soon arrive at Lake Toro, an inviting place to rest and eat beside the shore. Skirting the left bank on a rocky trail we begin a demanding descent that is steep at first, then gradually softens as it approaches the valley floor. The path finally reaches the flat meadow of Artiga de Lin and the refuge at about 1365 m, welcoming us to the valley.

Refugio Artiga de Lin - Llanos del Hospital Parking (Including Salvaguardia Summit)

Duration: 07:22 h
Distance: 14.7 km
Ascent: 1430 m
Descent: 1180 m

From Refugio Artiga de Lin, the route starts uphill straight away towards Picada Pass. With 1,430 m of ascent, this is a demanding climbing day, especially in the first half of the route. After the pass, you briefly descend before climbing again towards Salvaguardia Peak. The summit is optional, so you can either take on the exposed climb or continue directly into the final descent.

The first section climbs through open mountain terrain, with rough paths, grassy slopes and rockier ground as you gain height towards Picada Pass. After a short descent, the route turns uphill again towards Salvaguardia Peak. The summit climb does not require special equipment, but the terrain is exposed, and some cabled sections are in place to assist you on the steeper passages.

After the summit option, the route begins its long descent back into the valley. You lose height steadily on mountain paths before the terrain gradually becomes easier and more open. The final stretch follows the Ésera river towards Llanos del Hospital Parking, where the route ends.
