> Hike the sunny side of Switzerland with the whole family
> Stay in cozy mountain huts
> Experience the pink glow of Enrosadira at sunrise and sunset

Ticino is where Switzerland kicks back a little. Think alpine charm with Italian flair, sun-drenched trails, and the kind of scenery that makes you stop mid-sandwich. Famiglia Ticino is a 4-day hut-to-hut trek in the Alps made for families who like their holidays a little wild.

The hikes are manageable for experienced families, with daily distances that stay mellow but still take you into real alpine terrain. Expect rocky paths, mountain weather, and sections where sure footing matters. You’ll walk through lush valleys and ancient villages, wander along forest paths, and cross one good old-fashioned mountain pass, just enough to earn your gelato.

Each day ends in a welcoming rifugio with hearty food and wide mountain views. This is not a stroller stroll. It’s the Alps, unplugged and family-sized. Perfect for families who’ve hiked before and want a bit more next time.

Itinerary

Day
1

Lago Tremorgio - Capanna Leìt

Duration: 02:10 h
Distance: 4.5 km
Ascent: 430 m
Descent: 20 m

You begin your adventure by taking the cable car from Rodi to Lago Tremorgio. You can find timetables and practical information on the Tremorgio cable car website. If the cable car is closed on the day of your hike, check the other route alternatives in the app to reach the endpoint on foot.

From Lago Tremorgio, you follow a gentle T1 trail around the lake, which provides an easy warm-up with open views and interesting geological formations. A T2 path then branches off to the right and climbs steeply in zigzags toward Alpe Campolungo. Along the way, you may spot marmots and alpine flowers growing among the rocky slopes.

From Alpe Campolungo, continue through open alpine terrain toward Passo Vanitt. After crossing the pass, follow the mountain trail to Capanna Leìt, where this first stage ends.

2

Capanna Leìt - Capanna Campo Tencia

Duration: 02:20 h
Distance: 4.7 km
Ascent: 200 m
Descent: 330 m

It all starts with a wow. Just a few steps out of Capanna Leìt, you're already surrounded by views you won't forget. First, Lago di Leìt glows in the morning light like a secret jewel between the peaks. A bit later, another surprise: Lago di Morghirolo, shimmering far below like a hidden pool in the valley. Two mountain lakes in one day? Yes please.

The trail climbs gently at first, with a short cable section that adds just the right touch of adventure. It’s safe, steady, and fun for active kids (and adults too). Once you pass the high point, the path meanders through alpine meadows and past rocky ridgelines. Marmots might whistle from the slopes, and there’s plenty of space to stop, snack, and soak it all in.

As the valley opens, you make your way down toward Capanna Campo Tencia. It’s the perfect mix of adventure and comfort, with a mountain hut at the end that feels like it was made just for you.

Day
3

Capanna Campo Tencia - Dalpe

Duration: 03:20 h
Distance: 7.08 km
Descent: 920 m

This is a compact but steady downhill route through alpine terrain above Dalpe. You begin among open grassy slopes, scattered boulders and mountain views, with the path leading away from the higher valley into a mix of rough trail and pasture ground. Streams and small waterfalls add character early on, while the lower part becomes more enclosed as the route enters forest. It is not long, but the rocky descent asks for careful footing.

The route follows a marked trail through alpine meadows and stony ground, with views back to the surrounding ridges and steep mountain slopes. After the open upper section, the path moves into larch and conifer forest, where roots, rocks and shaded ground make the walking more technical in places. You continue downhill through alternating woodland and pasture, passing streams and rougher sections before the terrain gradually becomes easier near the lower valley.

The final stretch brings you out of the higher alpine setting and down towards Dalpe. Forest paths and pasture tracks gradually give way to village surroundings, where the route ends.
