The trek starts from Sembalun Lawang with a gentle ascend through open grassland used as cattle grazing by local people. After about three hours from Sembalun we reach Pos 2 Tengengean (1,500 m). From there you can enjoy the beautiful views of Mt. Rinjani summit (3,726 m) while eating your lunch.

After another 1,5 hour ascend you reach Pos 3 Pada Balong (1,800 m) for a small break. From there it takes 3,5 hours to your final destination for this day, Crater RIM Sembalum Base Camp. Along the way you will be walking through a steep trail inside the Cemara forrest, perhaps seeing evidence of wild pigs and the long-tailed grey macaque monkeys, before reaching the camp! Sembalun crater Rim - Summit - Lake & Hot springs

Duration: 08:56 h
Distance: 11.7 km
Ascent: 1070 m
Descent: 1650 m

Wake up at 2:00 am for a light breakfast prepared by your guide and porter, consisting of hot bread with jam, chocolate, and hot beverages to energize you for the summit trek. The climb to the summit, segmented into three stages, takes 3-4 hours in total. The initial phase involves a moderate ascent through sand becoming more challenging after the first hour. The subsequent stage, although less taxing, stretches for about 1.5 hours. The final phase, termed “letter E,” is notably steep and treacherous with a profusion of loose stones and gravel, making it a two-steps-forward-one-step-back ordeal.

Upon reaching the summit, reward yourself by taking in the mesmerizing sunrise view, offering panoramic sights of Lombok Island, Agung Mountain Bali, and Tambora Mountain Sumbawa. After a brief photo session, the journey retraces to the camp for breakfast and a rest period. The expedition continues with a descent to a lake and hot springs, demanding a cautious 3-hour trek down a steep path. The day concludes by the lake, where dinner is served and the night spent.
