This trek to Mount Rinjani’s summit (3726 m) via Sembalun village is recommended for those who are experienced trekkers and are in good shape. Before the trek you will spend the night in Senaru. On the next day we will drive you to Sembalun. The trek starts and finishes from sembalun village. Join us in this fast trek and enjoy the sunset and the unique views for the top of this wonderful mountain!

Your Hotel – Senaru Village – Sembalun Village – Crater RIM Sembalun Base Camp

Our driver will pick you up at your hotel lobby around 04.00-04:30 AM for a transfer directly to Senaru village. Here is the check-in at our office, breakfast is served and you will meet the guide and crew for the trekking briefing. After breakfast we will drive to Sembalun Village (1,156 m) Rinjani National Park Registration office; here is registration and check with your online TREKKING PASS.

The trek starts from Sembalun Lawang with a gentle ascend through open grassland used as cattle grazing by local people. After about three hours from Sembalun we reach Pos 2 Tengengean (1,500 m). From there you can enjoy the beautiful views of Mt. Rinjani summit (3,726 m) while eating your lunch.

After another 1,5 hour ascend you reach Pos 3 Pada Balong (1,800 m) for a small break. From there it takes 3,5 hours to your final destination for this day, Crater RIM Sembalum Base Camp. Along the way you will be walking through a steep trail inside the Cemara forrest, perhaps seeing evidence of wild pigs and the long-tailed grey macaque monkeys, before reaching the camp! The crew will set up all necessary gear here (tent, sleeping bag, mattress, pillow and toilet tent) and preparing your dinner. Get enough rest, because the next day starts early!

The expedition to Rinjani National Park will commence early with a 6 am wake-up followed by breakfast at 6:30 am. After a quick pack-up, a mountain car will transport you to Sembalun Village, a 45-minute journey. Upon arrival around 8 am, we'll check in at the Rinjani National Park Office for tickets before setting out on our trek. The day's journey will cover roughly 8-9 hours, with stops at various POS (shelters) for breaks and meals. The stops include Pos 1 for a short break, Pos 2 for a 2-hour lunch and rest, and brief halts at Pos 3 and Pos 4. Each pause offers a unique view of Rinjani's landscapes, with refreshments and snacks provided. The day culminates with a challenging climb, leading us to the scenic Sembalun crater rim by 5:30 pm. Here, as the sun sets, tents will be set up for the night, followed by a hearty dinner. As darkness envelops the landscape, trekkers can unwind and rejuvenate, gearing up for the next day's early summit trek.

Sembalun Crater Rim - Summit - Sembalun Crater Rim - Sembalun - Transfer to next destination

We will wake up at 2 am for a light breakfast before we start the challenging three hour trek to the summit (3,726 m). We will arrive in time to see the sunrise, the best time to enjoy the spectacular views. We will then return to our campsite next to the crater rim. There we will stop for a hot breakfast and a short rest before we begin our way down to Sembalun. We will stop for lunch at Pos 2 or 3. We will arrive in Sembalun in the early afternoon, from where you will be driven to your next destination.

    At the begining of the trek you will be picked up at Lombok airport, at any harbour such as Lembar Harbour, Teluk Kodek Harbour, Senggigi Harbour, or at any main turistic attraction (Mataram, Senggigi, Kuta Lombok, 3 Gilis) and we will drive you in a private car to your hotel in senaru village. The next day we will drive you to the trek’s starting point. Once you finish the trek, we will drive you back to your hotel or next destination on Lombok.

  • Hotelnight in Senaru

    On the first day, you will stay overnight at a hotel in Senaru.

  • Luggage storage

    During your time in the mountain, you can leave your extra luggage in our office free of charge.

    This trip does not include costs for transportation (flights, bus travel, etc.) to your destination.

  • Tipping

    Gratuities for the guide are not covered by the trek's price. The amount to tip is at your discretion, yet if you've received excellent service from your guide, considering a generous tip is appreciated.

  • Travel Insurance

    Your international travel insurance is your own responsibility. It is important that your travel insurance also covers adventures at a high altitude. Discuss your itinerary with the insurance company before your trek.

  • Personal expenses
