How to Book

> Trek to THAJEKO Mountain
> Be surround by spectacular Mountain Views
> Trek through mountain rice terraces and hill tribe coffee plantation
> Visit a remote Karen hill tribe village and kindergarten
> Explore unseen nature and visit 2 waterfalls

You will trek through the lush evergreen jungle and breathe fresh crisp air. Trek up to Thajeko mountain and enjoy spectacular panoramic views. After lunch at the top, we will continue our trek along mountainous terrain and on through a valley of rice terraces. Enjoy a cultural exchange as we stop off at Karen Hill Tribe village and visit a remote hill tribe kindergarten. Our guides will be happy to share information about local flora and fauna as well as local life.

What's the plan?

We will pick you up from your hotel at 7:30-8.00 am and drive to Chom Tong district. First, we will stop at Chom Tong’s biggest fresh food market where local people come to sell their produce. You will enjoy wandering through the many stalls taking in the colorful foods and flavors. Our guide will be happy to answer any questions and explain the market life.

Then we will drive to Hoi Som Poi  Karen Hill Tribe village. To get to the village you pass beautiful rural countryside, fruit farms, rice fields, and magical mountain views.

From the village, we will start to trek for 1 half hours up to the top of Thajeko Mountain. As you trek our tour guide will show you different local flora and fauna and share information about the area. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. This part of the trek will be through the lush evergreen tropical forest. When you arrive at the top of Thajeko mountain you will see wonderful panoramic views and the top of the highest mountain of Thailand Doi Inthanon. About 25 years ago this land was used mainly by the Karen people to grow opium before it became illegal. At the top of the mountain, you will be given plenty of time to rest, enjoy lunch and take pictures.

Then we’ll trek down through rice paddy fields where you can learn about rice and hill tribe farming. The next village you will visit is Hoi Ma Naw, here we will visit the kindergarten school. At the school, you are welcome to say hello to the kids and visit them in class. If you want to, you can bring small gifts for the children.

For the final part of this trek, we will visit a waterfall where you can swim and relax before our drive back to Chiang Mai.

How hard are the trails?
The trails on this trek are not hard, but you will be trekking to the top of Thajeko mountain, which involves some up-and-down trekking. Always bear in mind that you will be trekking for several hours and that these are mountain trails. If you are in good shape, this trek shouldn't be a problem for you. However, if you are worried that it might be too much, you can always train in advance, walking a few hours a day and climbing some stairs.

Karen Hilltribe Communities
The Karen Hill Tribes are the largest ethnic minority group in Thailand. These tribes live in mountain villages in northern Thailand and practice agriculture. The indigenous Karen people of Thailand are Thai citizens even though they speak a different language and their culture differs from Thai Culture in some ways. They still can speak Thai and have Thai ID’s. Chiang Dao is home to the largest population of ethnic minorities “hilltribe villages” in Thailand.

Best season
You can trek in northern Thailand all year round. However, there are some recommendations when it comes to choosing your dates. Temperatures can drop down to 7°C in winter, and go up to 27°C in summer. Make sure you dress accordingly depending on the season. If you are trekking in winter, from November to March, be prepared and bring some warm clothes.  May to November is Monsoon season, and although the temperatures are more temperate, the region sees a lot of rain and clouds tend to obscure the views.

Tipping is 100% common in Thailand, it is 100% expected. If you got a good service from your guide and you want to thank him, it will always be much appreciated. How much to tip your guide is up to you. If you had a good time, 300 Baht/USD 10 for a full-day tour is a good tip.
