Lake Bohinj - Koca Pod Bogatinom

Duration: 04:35 h
Distance: 10.4 km
Ascent: 1000 m
Descent: 20 m

The starting point for this trek is Lake Bohinj. If you would like to use local transport to get to the starting point, you can check Simo. From the western shores of the lake, you will hike along the Savica Waterfall to your overnight accommodation at Koca pod Bogatinom.

Optional: It is also possible to begin this hike from Bovec. This may be inconvenient if you are using private transportation to reach the starting point, but it's ideal for those relying on public transportation. An additional advantage is that you will pass by another Triglav Lake, Krnsko Jezero, which is definitely worth a visit. Please consult our trekking experts for more information on this option.

Koca Pod Bogatinom - Koca Pod Bogatinom

Duration: 06:25 h
Distance: 15.7 km
Ascent: 620 m
Descent: 590 m

Today, you will embark on a loop around various Triglav Lakes. Crno Jezero, the Black Lake, sits at an altitude of nearly 1300m and is surrounded by steep cliffs. It's a beautiful spot for a brief stop. This lake also serves as the source for the Savica Waterfall, which you encountered on day 1. Next, you will pass by Dvojno Jezero, the Double Lake, which will be another highlight along the route. If there has been sufficient rainfall, these two lakes merge to form a larger lake.

Optional: You can add Jezero v Ledvicah lake to your itinerary as well. From Dvojno Jezero, you can hike north into the valley until you reach Lake Ledvicah. You will descend using the same route to continue along the original path.

Koca pod Bogatinom - Orlova Glava Hut - Lake Bohinj

Duration: 06:10 h
Distance: 11.7 km
Ascent: 760 m
Descent: 600 m

From Koča pod Bogatinom the trail leads you across the high plateau towards the ski area above Lake Bohinj. It is a balcony walk with constant views: limestone ridges, patches of dwarf pine and, when the clouds behave, the jagged skyline of Triglav. You follow an easy path across before the terrain starts to change; Short ups and downs before the path starts to climb around for 250 metres to a rounded ridge at about 1,770 m. From here the valley drops away on both sides and the views stretch across a sea of limestone peaks, with the blue strip of the lake far below.

After this point, the path glides past a last mountain hut, perfectly placed for a celebratory drink while Lake Bohinj shimmers far below. When you are ready, you step into the cable car and travel down, until the lake appears and the backpack finally comes off for good.

Important: The Vogel cable car closes at 16:00, so make sure you arrive in time for the last descent. We recommend allowing some extra margin in case of delays along the trail. You can check the latest timetables and operating conditions on the official Vogel website.
