We work with one of the best trekking organizations in Nepal. The local crew is taking care of you from the start to the end of your trip with us. Our guides have trekked in Upper Mustang multiple times, and know the best accommodation on the route. Our team leader in Kathmandu, Chhatra, tells us how they anticipated the construction of the new road across Mustang. “A few years back we were still taking the old route to Lo Manthang”, he explains. “But with the construction of the road that connects this part of Nepal with Tibet, we were forced to find an alternative route that avoids hiking on the road. We created an interesting itinerary, where you see all the highlights in the Kingdom of Mustang without being disturbed by traffic. However, we don’t know what the future of the region looks like, and it’s best to go sooner rather than later if you want to have the genuine experience of the character of this special region”
Any Upper Mustang Trek package will be relatively expensive. This has to do with the special permit that’s required for this restricted area. The permit alone costs US$500 per person, whether you do a short or a longer trek. Below you can find the details of our Upper Mustang trek:

An important note to make is that our Upper Mustang tour includes the salary, food, accommodation and insurance for the local crew. This sounds normal but not every organization makes these arrangements for their people on the ground.
Prices of flights to Kathmandu vary, but Tribhuvan International Airport is well-served by some of the Gulf state airlines, such as Emirates Airlines and Qatar Airways. You can find a flight from Europe for less than 800 EUR whereas you may find a deal for around 1000 EUR from the east coast of the USA. Nepal is a very affordable country. A good quality accommodation can be found for less than 50 EUR and eating in local restaurants is generally cheap and very tasty.
Are the tea houses in Upper Mustang different from the ones in other Nepali trekking regions? They certainly are. Mustang is Tibetan and that reflects on the way the tea houses look, with flat roofs and distinct window frames. On our Upper Mustang trek itinerary, we stay in authentic Tibetan style accommodation. Don’t expect luxuries like on the Everest Base Camp trek. The region still doesn’t see many trekkers and the tea houses are quite basic, though very genuine. While you shouldn’t count on WiFi and hot water, you will have the chance to taste local food, such as yak cheese and yak butter tea. Staying in an Upper Mustang tea house is a truly local experience that gives you an idea how people in this part of the world live their lives.
