Once you got the tickets to Peru and you have already decided which trek you are going to choose to reach Machu Picchu, the next step is to find a place to stay in Cusco. It doesn't matter if you choose the classic of classics, the Inca Trail, or if you go for a less known route, like the Salkantay or the Lares trek. If you are going to Machu Picchu, you need to get to Cusco first. Spending at least one night in Cusco before your trek to Machu Picchu is paramount to prevent altitude sickness during your trek.

Cusco is one of Peru's biggest cities and it has grown this much thanks, in part, to the tourism industry. Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, attracts thousands of tourists every year. Regardless of your budget, Cusco has plenty of options to suit everybody. In this blog, we will share with you some of the recommendations for accommodation options provided by our local trekking partners.

In which area of Cusco should I stay?

During your stay in Cusco, one part of the city will stand out from the rest and that is the Centro Histórico. This is an old part of town, full of historical buildings and the famous Cathedral that appears on all photos of Cusco. If you are looking for a good place to stay, this area is the most recommended. Try to find your accommodation close to the Plaza de Armas.

This area is busy both during the day and during the night, which means that you won't be walking to your hotel alone at night. This part of town is also tourist-oriented, full of cafés, bars, and restaurants. You can stay in other parts of Cusco as well, of course, but if you want to be in the city center, this is where you want to book your hotel.

In this article, we have gathered different hotels in Cusco, in different parts of the city, and for different budgets. Shall we begin?
