This special blog is finally here, where we've gathered some of your favorite memories. We've received hundreds (if not thousands) of your photos, and believe me, it's been quite challenging to decide which ones to share with you in this post. In this blog, you'll find the best of the best, a mix of the finest views captured by our hikers, their favorite spots to rest (and enjoy a well-deserved cold beer), the obstacles they've overcome on the journey, the shelters where they've slept comfortably at night, how the route looks in different seasons, and much more.

If you've sent us your photos but they didn't make it to this blog, don't worry! There will be many more opportunities, so stay tuned and wait for the next edition. I warn you, if you keep reading this, you'll have an irresistible urge to pack your backpack and embark on the adventure. That's coming from me, writing this from the offices of Bookatrekking.com (and even though it's very nice here), what I wouldn't give for a getaway to the Balkans or an adventure in the Chilean Patagonia or an expedition in Nepal or an ascent to the roof of Africa... Well, well, I'll stop now! So, stay with me if you want to feel a little envy, it'll be worth it!

The best views

We can show you hundreds of photos with views of spectacular landscapes, but nothing compares to experiencing it live and in person. That's why we've selected some of the best views captured by our hikers. I don't know about you, but it gives me goosebumps. I wish I could teleport there!

Let's have a break

Don't think that it's all about non-stop walking, not at all. Our hikers always find the best spots to take a little break and have a snack along the way. Grab pen and paper and take note of their suggestions. As you may know, it all depends on the difficulty of the stage; distance, altitude, or elevation gain, but you can always find the ideal place to take a breather. They've also shared some cherished memories of the accommodations they've visited during their adventure. Finding the best shelters, campsites, hostels, and hotels is our responsibility, the expert team at Bookatrekking.com.

Half Alta Via 2

Hannah enjoyed a self-guided hike last June; the Half Alta Via 2. Even though she walked for 9 days non-stop, she was also able to find beautiful spots for a short break.

Don't get distracted

Always, always remember to follow the trail markings; it's crucial for your safety, and we don't want you to get lost. In addition to the trail markers, beacons, and other signals you'll encounter during the route, we recommend using a map to navigate better. Whether it's with an interactive model or a traditional paper guide, our favorite allies, and the ones we always work with, are Komoot's online maps. They're easy to use from your mobile or GPS. If you're not a fan of technology, a physical guide won't run out of battery.

GR20 Northern Section - Short Version

The Northern Half of the GR20 is one of the short sections of this Grande Randonée. It is very important to know the signs of your hike for better navigation, and Michael here shows us the white and red markings of the GR20.

Views vs hikers

If you want to feel tiny, I'll leave you with a collection of the best photos of imposing mountains and expansive valleys compared to our little adventurers. It might intimidate and impress some hikers equally to see such majestic mountains up close, but isn't the feeling of freedom incredible when you have a landscape like that under your feet?

Hanne shared with us this amazing picture of her group of friends where we the spectacular mountain scenery of the Kesch Trek can be seen behind them.

I think I left something out!

"Packing light without forgetting the necessary," should be our motto. But I confess, I never follow it. The truth is, I always fill my backpack with just in case items, and still, I usually forget something. Carrying everything you need and not forgetting anything important is a science, I would say a superpower. So, don't pay much attention to me and learn from our hikers; they really know!

Look how happy Carol's family looks, right? Well, keep scrolling and see how they got caught in the rain in the middle of the Kesch Trek. Thank god they were well prepared!

When hiking, you have to think of your backpack as your home. Well, a minimalist version where you can only carry the essentials. However, it's crucial to go well-prepared and equipped, especially in the mountains, where the weather tends to be quite unpredictable. At Bookatrekking.com, we always advise you to check our recommended luggage lists, specially designed for each of our destinations. We always emphasize the importance of using technical or breathable clothing and wearing several layers of insulation, some of them waterproof.

Obviously, wearing a good pair of socks and hiking boots or sports shoes is a must. It's also essential to protect yourself from the cold with a hat and gloves or from the sun with a cap and sunscreen. Additionally, carrying a small toiletry bag and a first aid kit can be very useful on certain occasions. I know, it may sound contradictory to say "Carry the minimum without forgetting the necessary" and at the same time give you a huge list of things to take with you. But believe me, these luggage lists are meticulously designed, so you'll appreciate it in the long run!

And don't worry, if you forget something, it won't be the end of the world. Surely, in the end, it won't be that important. You can always find someone who happens to have what you need. And to me, it seems like the perfect excuse to meet people and make new friends!

Challenges on the road

When you go on a trail, depending on the difficulty of the path, you may encounter exciting challenges. There will be truly easy excursions suitable for families, with young children or those less skilled, and other routes that will pose a thrilling challenge. For example, a narrow path where you'll cross by holding onto steel cables fixed to the rock or a vertical wall with embedded metal steps.

What's most recognized by the most adventurous hikers are expeditions that include sections of via ferrata, where you'll need to be well-equipped with a helmet, gloves, and harness. Another step beyond is the ascent to snowy peaks, where you may sometimes need special equipment to overcome icy walls or more challenging stretches with accumulated snow.

Whether you prefer a more tranquil adventure or a real challenge, we can help you find the one that best suits you.
