Quick personal advice

The Tour du Mont Blanc cost starts from 1,350 euros per person for our self-guided 10-day full loop (two people sharing, prices as of October 2026). Booking every refuge yourself costs less in hut fees, but you do all the planning, booking and paying per hut yourself. A guided group tour costs more, because you also pay for a guide. This page breaks down exactly what sits inside that price, what you pay on top, real refuge prices with sources, and how to choose the right version for your budget. The trail itself is free: there is no permit or entrance fee anywhere on the route through France, Italy and Switzerland. You pay for beds, meals and transport.

Tour du Mont Blanc cost at a glance

The price of a Tour du Mont Blanc depends on five things: how many days you walk, whether you stay in huts or hotels, whether you take a dormitory or a private room, whether luggage transfer is included, and how you travel to Chamonix.

Here is what each trip costs with Bookatrekking (prices as of October 2026; prices per date can differ; all amounts in euros):

Trip Days Price per person (two sharing) Solo
Best of TMB: Lac Blanc 2 170 euros 200 euros
Mini Tour du Mont Blanc 3 360 euros 430 euros
Western Tour du Mont Blanc 5 585 euros 705 euros
Eastern Tour du Mont Blanc 6 800 euros 965 euros
Full Tour du Mont Blanc 10 1,350 euros 1,755 euros
Full TMB including rest day 11 1,530 euros 1,990 euros
Full TMB with accommodation 12 1,790 euros 2,325 euros
Tour du Mont Blanc Comfort 11 2,595 euros 3,765 euros

All packages are self-guided and organised by Bookatrekking. Solo prices are for one person travelling alone.

How much to hike the Tour du Mont Blanc: three budget levels

How much it costs to hike the Tour du Mont Blanc depends mainly on how much of the loop you walk and how much comfort you want. A taste of the route costs from 170 euros (Lac Blanc, 2 days) or 360 euros (Mini Tour du Mont Blanc, 3 days). The full loop in dormitories with half board costs from 1,350 euros per person for two sharing. With hotels, luggage transfer and a rest day, the Comfort trek costs from 2,595 euros. If you book the refuges yourself, nine nights of half board at the example prices further down this page (around 70 to 100 euros a night) come to roughly 630 to 900 euros in hut fees, before travel, lunch, drinks and any transfers.

Tour du Mont Blanc cost per day: huts, meals and extras

On our 10-day Full TMB, the package works out at roughly 135 euros per person per day for two people sharing (1,350 euros divided by 10). That covers your dormitory bed, dinner and breakfast in the huts (half board), the included transfer between Les Chapieux and Bourg Saint Maurice, and access to the trekking app with route descriptions, maps and offline GPS navigation.

Half board in a refuge means dinner the evening you arrive and breakfast before you set off the next morning. Dormitory beds are standard in all our hut-based packages. On the Comfort trek you can ask for a private room in a hut where one is available (see below).

On top of the package price you will pay for lunch, drinks, any cable cars or buses you choose to take, and your travel insurance. Those costs are variable and depend entirely on your own choices.

Tour du Mont Blanc budget per day

Your fixed daily cost is the package price divided by the number of hiking days. Everything else is up to you. For lunch, you can buy food at the huts, and many huts offer packed lunches that you can usually order the evening before.

One example of an optional extra with a known price: the Bellevue cable car in Les Houches costs 18.60 euros one-way for an adult (source: chamonix.com, 2026 tariff). Other cable cars and shuttle buses can be useful if the weather turns or if you want to skip a long climb or descent, but costs vary and are not included in any package.

It is worth carrying some euro notes and Swiss francs in cash for small purchases in the refuges, in case paying by card is not possible.

Self-guided Tour du Mont Blanc packages: prices and what's included

Every Bookatrekking package is self-guided: you walk at your own pace, without a guide. One price covers all your accommodation booked by us, half board in the huts (dinner and breakfast), breakfast in hotels where possible, and the trekking app with route descriptions, maps, offline GPS and your accommodation details. The Full TMB 10-day trek also includes the transfer between Les Chapieux and Bourg Saint Maurice, where you spend one night in a lodge.

Here is a short guide to which trip suits which situation:

The Full Tour du Mont Blanc in 10 days (approximately 162.7 km, around 9,760 metres of ascent) is the complete loop from Chamonix/Les Houches back to Chamonix, through France, Italy and Switzerland. It suits walkers who want the whole circuit and are happy with dormitory huts.

If you would like a hotel night in Chamonix before and after the trek, the Full TMB with accommodation in 12 days adds a hotel night in Chamonix before and after the trek.

The Full TMB including a rest day in 11 days builds in a day off in Courmayeur, which works well if you prefer a slower pace or want time to explore the Italian side of the massif.

Walking half the loop is a practical option if your time is limited. The Western Tour du Mont Blanc in 5 days goes from Chamonix to Courmayeur (approximately 67.9 km); the Eastern Tour du Mont Blanc in 6 days covers Courmayeur to Chamonix (approximately 95.4 km). Either half gives you a proper mountain experience without a two-week commitment.

For a shorter taste of the massif, the Mini Tour du Mont Blanc in 3 days is a loop from Orsières in Switzerland (approximately 48.8 km), and the Best of TMB: Lac Blanc in 2 days starts from Chamonix/La Flégère (approximately 32.7 km, one night at Gîte Mermoud).

Our prices do not vary by month: the rate you see on the booking page is the same whether you travel in June or in September.

Tour du Mont Blanc luxury: hotels, private rooms and luggage transfer

The most comfortable version we offer is the Tour du Mont Blanc Comfort in 11 days, from 2,595 euros per person for two sharing (solo 3,765 euros). The Comfort trek uses hotels, hostels and huts, includes luggage transfer every day (your bags are collected in the morning and waiting at the next accommodation), and comes with arrival and departure days in Chamonix and a rest day in Courmayeur. Where a private room in a hut is available, you can add one for 75 euros extra per room per night, subject to availability; where it is not, a dormitory bed is provided.

It is worth being straightforward about what "luxury" means on the TMB: it is still a mountain trek with genuine ascent and descent each day. What the Comfort trek gives you is a lighter pack and more privacy, not a five-star hotel experience.

What's not included in the price

On all packages, you pay separately for:

  • Travel to Chamonix and from the finish (most walkers fly into Geneva and continue by shuttle, bus or train)
  • Local transport on the trail: taxis, buses, cable cars and gondolas
  • Lunch and snacks (huts sell food and packed lunches; shops are available in the larger villages)
  • Drinks and personal expenses
  • Travel insurance (your own responsibility: check that mountain walking in the Alps is covered before you book)
  • Luggage transfer, except on the Comfort trek (see below)

You will also need appropriate kit: good walking boots, a rucksack and a sleeping bag liner for the huts. Whatever you already own costs nothing extra.

Tour du Mont Blanc luggage transfer cost

On our standard hut-to-hut packages, there is no luggage transfer. Most refuges on the TMB can only be reached on foot, which means no vehicle can follow the route between huts, so you carry your own pack each day.

If you want your luggage moved for you every morning, the Comfort trek includes luggage transfer in the price; it uses hotels, hostels and huts. On the hut-to-hut packages the practical answer is to pack light.

Mountain hut prices on the Tour du Mont Blanc

A dormitory bed with half board on the TMB usually costs around 70 to 100 euros, or Swiss francs in Switzerland. Private rooms cost more. To give you a concrete sense of what to expect, here are four examples from the official refuge booking site montourdumontblanc.com (rates as listed in October 2026; prices differ per hut):

Refuge Country Dormitory half board Private room half board Source
Refuge de la Balme (Les Contamines) France 71 euros (12-bed) / 79 euros (4-6-bed) 190 euros for two montourdumontblanc.com, Oct 2026
Auberge-Refuge de la Nova (Bourg Saint Maurice) France From 72 euros Up to 94 euros per person montourdumontblanc.com, Oct 2026
Rifugio Chapy Mont Blanc (Val Ferret) Italy 70 euros per bed 185 euros for a double room montourdumontblanc.com, Oct 2026
Chalet La Grange (Champex) Switzerland 92 CHF (large dorm) / 97 CHF (small dorm) — montourdumontblanc.com, Oct 2026

Note that La Balme includes a shower in its half-board price. In Switzerland you pay in Swiss francs rather than euros. Prices vary from hut to hut.

If you book a package with us, these refuge costs are already included in the price you pay upfront. If you book each refuge yourself, you pay each one separately.

How to save money on the Tour du Mont Blanc

The most effective ways to reduce the TMB hike cost are:

  • Walk a shorter section. The Lac Blanc two-day trek starts at 170 euros and the Mini TMB three-day loop at 360 euros. Both give you a genuine Alpine hut experience at a fraction of the full-loop price.
  • Sleep in dormitories. All standard packages include dormitory beds. If the option of a private room in a hut matters to you, budget accordingly on the Comfort trek.
  • Travel as two. The solo price on the Full TMB is 1,755 euros against 1,350 euros each for two people sharing. When you travel alone, costs that two people would share are carried by one person.
  • Book early. Our price does not change by month, but the refuges are at their busiest in July and August. Booking early gives you the best choice of accommodation along the route.
  • Use the group discount. If you are travelling with a larger group, a group discount is available. Check the current terms on the booking page rather than applying a fixed percentage, because the details can vary.

Is there a cheap Tour du Mont Blanc?

The cheapest way to walk on the TMB with us is to choose a short section: the Lac Blanc two-day hike starts from 170 euros per person (two sharing), and the Mini Tour du Mont Blanc in three days starts from 360 euros. For the full loop, the dormitory-based 10-day trek from 1,350 euros is the most affordable option we offer.

Wild camping and bivouacking exist as alternatives and can reduce accommodation costs, but each of the three countries on the route has its own rules about where camping is permitted. We do not offer camping itineraries; for a full picture of the options, our complete Tour du Mont Blanc guide covers the route in detail.

Self-guided, guided or DIY: which is worth the cost?

There are three main ways to do the Tour du Mont Blanc, and the right one depends on how much you value your time, certainty and flexibility.

DIY means researching and booking every refuge yourself, each with its own booking and payment. The trail is well marked and many experienced walkers do exactly this. It saves the margin a service provider charges, but it takes real planning time, and a missed booking or full hut can derail a day.

Self-guided with Bookatrekking means paying from 1,350 euros for the full loop, with every hut and hotel confirmed by our team, half board included, and the trekking app on your phone. You walk at your own pace, choose your own start time each morning and make your own decisions on the trail. You pay more than the bare hut fees; in return the booking and confirmation of every hut, the transfer and the app are taken care of.

A guided group tour costs more because you also pay for a guide. The trade-off is that navigation, daily decisions and group dynamics are handled for you. This suits walkers who want company arranged for them or who are uncomfortable with route-finding in the high mountains.

Tour du Mont Blanc self-guided cost vs doing it yourself

Here is an honest comparison: nine nights of half board at around 70 to 100 euros per night come to roughly 630 to 900 euros in hut fees, before transport, lunch and drinks. The 1,350-euro package costs more; what you pay for is time and certainty: your huts are confirmed by our team and the whole route is in the app.

If you are also comparing routes, our Tour du Mont Blanc vs Alta Via 1 comparison lays out the differences in comfort, cuisine and scenery between the two routes. And if you are considering the TMB with younger walkers, the Tour du Mont Blanc with children covers what to expect and how to plan it.

Tour du Mont Blanc cost: frequently asked questions

How much does the Tour du Mont Blanc cost?

A self-guided full TMB with Bookatrekking costs from 1,350 euros per person for 10 days (two people sharing) or 1,755 euros solo. Shorter sections start from 170 euros. Prices are as of October 2026; prices per date can differ. Travel to Chamonix, lunch and local transport are not included.

Is the Tour du Mont Blanc free?

The trail itself is free: there is no permit, park fee or entrance charge anywhere on the route through France, Italy and Switzerland. What you pay for is accommodation, meals, any local transport you use, and travel to and from the start.

What is the average cost per day on the Tour du Mont Blanc?

On the 10-day Full TMB with us, the package works out at roughly 135 euros per person per day for two sharing, covering a dormitory bed, half board in the huts, the included transfer and the trekking app. Lunch, drinks and any cable cars come on top of that figure.

How much do the refuges on the Tour du Mont Blanc cost?

A dormitory bed with half board usually costs around 70 to 100 euros or Swiss francs per night. For example, Refuge de la Balme in France charges 71 to 79 euros half board and Chalet La Grange in Switzerland charges 92 to 97 Swiss francs (source: montourdumontblanc.com, October 2026). Prices differ per hut.

Is the Tour du Mont Blanc worth the money?

For most walkers, yes: ten days through France, Italy and Switzerland around the Mont Blanc massif, with your beds and half board organised. If the cost of the full loop is a stretch, starting with a shorter section — two days at Lac Blanc or three days on the Mini TMB — is a sound alternative.

Can you do the Tour du Mont Blanc on your own, and is it cheaper?

Yes. The TMB is well marked and many walkers book the refuges independently. Doing it yourself avoids the service fee, but you book each hut separately and manage any changes yourself. Self-guided with Bookatrekking gives you the same freedom with all the accommodation confirmed and the trekking app in your pocket.

How much does a shorter Tour du Mont Blanc cost?

The Western TMB in 5 days costs from 585 euros, the Eastern TMB in 6 days from 800 euros, the Mini TMB in 3 days from 360 euros, and the Lac Blanc two-day hike from 170 euros. All prices are per person for two sharing, as of October 2026.

How far in advance should you book the Tour du Mont Blanc?

Book as early as you can, especially for July and August, when the refuges are at their busiest. With Bookatrekking you pay a 30 percent deposit when you book and can cancel free of charge up to eight weeks before departure. Book flights and trains only once your huts are confirmed by our team.

Do solo hikers pay more on the Tour du Mont Blanc?

Yes. The Full TMB costs 1,755 euros per person when travelling solo, compared with 1,350 euros each for two people sharing. The difference reflects single-occupancy costs in accommodation along the route. Larger groups can check the group discount terms on the booking page.

When and how to book your Tour du Mont Blanc

Booking works in three steps: choose a date on the trek page, pay a 30 percent deposit, and our team confirms every hut and hotel by hand. You receive confirmation before you need to book travel. Free cancellation applies up to eight weeks before departure.

For 2027, the Full Tour du Mont Blanc can be booked on departure dates from 15 June to 22 September 2027. The shorter sections — Western, Eastern, Mini TMB and Lac Blanc — run from mid-June to late September 2027. The specific dates available are listed on each booking page.

One practical note: do not book flights or trains until your trek is confirmed. It is better to have certainty before committing to non-refundable travel.

For full route details, day-by-day stages, a map and a difficulty assessment, see our complete Tour du Mont Blanc hiking guide. If you are interested in other hut-to-hut routes in the Alps, hut-to-hut hiking in the Alps covers the full range of options we offer across the region.
