The freedom of self-guided treks

Rintsje is the captain of the ship called Bookatrekking.com and has helped build the company since day 1. Born and raised on a farm in the northern part of the Netherlands, he caught the travel bug when he was 20 years old. His journeys have taken him to epic places like Madagascar and South Africa. His love affair with the mountains started when he began working for Bookatrekking.com. Rintsje’s favorite type of trek? “I love standing on top of a big mountain, such as Kilimanjaro and Jebel Toubkal. But, I have to say that I really like self-guided hut to hut treks. The freedom of independent hiking is priceless. The Stubaier Höhenweg is perhaps my perfect trek. It’s quite technical with lots of exposure in a very rugged landscape.” Any tips to make a trekking trip more enjoyable? “Train before you go. Grab your daypack and go on regular hikes, whether it’s in nature or the city. Being fit makes a trek a lot more fun.”

The fast pace developments at Bookatrekking.com

At Bookatrekking.com Rintsje is staying on top of new developments to make the platform attractive and easy to use. And that’s exactly what he enjoys most about his job. “Things are very dynamic in the company. A few months ago we launched our new website, that was a huge thing. It’s great to constantly improve our processes and the customer experience. I also really relish the fact that the people at Bookatrekking.com grow in their jobs with all these new developments.” Which trip is still high on his list? “I want to take 6 months off so I can do them all” Rintsje jokes. “But a trek like Peaks of the Balkan is really up my street.”
